Mom: How I spent December and January

Whimiscal Calendar

is back

Today Feb 1, is Spunky Old Broads Day!!!
If the shoe fits, .....enjoy your day, I heard Mom said she will (mol).
I began reading South of Broad by Pat Conroy, which takes place in Charleston, South Carolina.

I do most of my reading either during my lunch hour or at night while riding my recumbent bicycle.

I crochet while watching TV every evening

I really enjoy crocheting; however, for obvious reasons, I don't crochet a lot
in the summer....too hot to have lots of yarn in your lap.
I'm happy to say I've completed 2 of the 3 baby afghans I need to
make for wee ones due this spring. The one above is a shell pattern
it is 1/2 baby soft white and 1/2 soft shades of pink, blue and green.
It will be leaving for its new home in New York in the next week or so to await the birth of a May 2010 baby.
Last weekend I started my 3rd and final baby afgan of the year. It will be completely mint green and also in the shell pattern as above.
Three newborn hats for premature babies. I make these out of leftover baby afghan yarn.
When I have a bag full I take them to our local hospital. The hospital furnishes
newborn hats but they are too large for the premature babies.

This was my first baby afghan of the winter. Made out of baby soft ecru yarn. It is in a 'V' pattern made with two single crochets. The edging for this afghan is a single crochet around 3 edges and a shell pattern on the top edge. This afghan has already arrived at its new home in Arkansas awaiting the arrival of the 3rd baby in the Ware World household, due in early February. Whether it will be a boy or a girl is a yet to be known.....

  3. Great crotchet projects. LOL.... too hot for yarn. None of my fur kids (6 indoor cats and 1 big hairy dog) would let me.

The dog loves being in my lap as much as the cats would enjoy tangling up the yarn.

  6. I've met Pat Conroy before. Very nice man and very entertaining.

At first I thought the hats were a bra - I was wondering how that would work! :)

  9. Hi Madi, sounds like it is our mom's day! We liked your mom's crochet very much - ours can knit but has never learned to crochet and keeps meaning to.
Those new born hats were the sweetest. What lucky babies to be getting those lovely hand made garments.
Your mom keeps herself busy through the winter. Ours hasn't read a book in ages as she finds between work, walking us and blogging she has little time.
Oh well......one day! Thank you for the kind remarks about our pics - you know our mum loves taking pictures and did you notice there were quite a few without us!

  19. Hi Madi and Mom,

Madi you need to give your assistant a raise, her crocheting is beautiful. The newborn hats are adorable, that is so sweet of you to do that for the little ones.

Years ago my grandmother tried to teach me to crochet. That's when we figured out that I had been born with ten thumbs!
