TUESDAY TALE

Saturday mom passed through the FOYER several times
each time she found me looking up...Looking up is contagious.  In a matter of seconds mom looked up too.  Once she determined there were no BUGS she squeals like a little girl when she sees bugs up there, she took 87 pictures of me looking up.  BUT we are only showing you three

I stared at the door for about 5 minutes.
never moving or blinking.  Finally Mom
decided to see if there was something outside
She found all kinds of twigs and grass and debris on the
porch

Lo and behold Mrs. Brown headed Nuthatch was trying to make a nest on the 2" ledge above the door.  Mom and I love Bird TV but there are many reasons we cannot have a bird nest over our front door.

1.Mom and Dad come in and out of that door a gazillion times a day 2.Mom said what if an itty bitty birdie egg falls on my head
3.Even worse what if it poops on my head.

She swept the debris off the ledge 3 times.
She nearly used up all the ram on her hard drive trying to
think of a way to convince Tweety Pie that this real estate
in off limits

You know they say Necessity is the Mother of Invention
You'll never believe the Invention my Mother came up with
Sunday afternoon Mom hung several curly ribbons on the ledge.  She said when the wind blows the motion of the ribbon would keep the birds away.
The picture below was taken Monday morning.
Now the birdbrain is trying to make a nest in both corners.

Mom came up with another solution covering the entire
transom window and ledge with a plastic bag.
We will let you know if this works.
In the meantime Mom says visitors are going
to get a chuckle out of this.

In order to be close to the action, I've been sitting in the foyer.
I can here you all saying WHY IS THE BOX STILL IN THE FOYER?
ANSWER:  I like the box there.

Mom says she and Dad own the house
but I own their hearts...
  Sometimes I come running
down the stairs and making a flying leap onto the box!!

  1. Tell your Mommy to hand aluminum pie pans over the door. We've had lots of luck with those.
We hope all those storms missed you. There were some nasty ones!

Happy Tuesday to our favorite tuxie!
XOXO from your besties, Precious and Princeton.

  13. Mommy said she has to show her girlfriend your post. She has the same problem with the birds at her house here in Florida. She has tried absolutely EVERYTHING to keep the birds from nesting over the door. She even put up tin foil to cover the windows and that didn't work. If you find a solution let us know!

  14. Your mom should have KNOWN that you were looking at the door fur a REASON. You were TRYING to show her what was going on OUTSIDE the door.
We hear that Moth Balls work well to keep birds away...
BUTT we Love your mom's INVENTIVENESS with the Ribbons... and now the plastic bag.
We like to ROLL in Bird Poop. Just sayin.

  15. Ha, love the "decor." :-D

How about your mom and dad putting up a bird house somewhere nearby? Then you can watch for babies and they can have a clear entryway. LOL.

  16. Madi your momma is so smart....wowser! We love that you have your own box and that you enjoy it so much...Dietzy likes boxes also, we on the other hand eat them.

  17. Ha Ha! Once birdies have found the perfect spot is tough to keep them from their task!!! We have a phoebe that builds its muddy messy nest on our rock wall on the front porch every Spring. I figured that box was there just for YOU!

  18. Nothing like the curiosity of a cat to start things rolling. :)
Silly bird, that ledge doesn't look big enough for a nest, even for a nuthatch!
I hope Mom's latest device persuades the mama bird to nest somewhere else!
The box looks nice and steady to perch on, instead of that antique table in the foyer, Madi!

  21. hahaha, had to lol because I thought that was like us and our beagles. plug a hole and they would move down a couple of feet and dig another!!!!

  23. That isn't a good place for a bird nest! We hope the birdie made a nest where you can have birdie TV :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Madi, why won't your mom let that little bird make its nest up there? It won't poop on her...it will be sitting in the nest. And the eggs won't fall on her head...they will be in the nest. We always let the little birdies build nests by our house. It is fun to watch the babies hatch. You would love it more than Bird TV!

  25. Madi, I agree with your peeps, a birds nest above the door is not really a good idea. We had one once and we accepted it, because there were 3 eggs in the nest as we noticed the lodgers. It was a mess in front of our door the whole summer :o) I like that your peeps placed the box there where you like it. and it can be practically too in case of unwelcome visitors, your mom can grab the box and say: sorry, I'm busy .

  28. And the saga continues...keep us posted!

Mommy laughed at the peephole. Don't ask us why...

  29. Ha - we had that happen here a couple of times until someone told mom about this device you can get at the hardware store - she thinks it is called a bird guard or something like that - costs about $30. It is a pointy thing that sits on the ledge and discourages the birds. Our human sister once had a bird make her nest in the flower wreath on the front door. By the time the family discovered it, the eggs were already in place. They let them hatch and develop but oh what a mess!!! Needless to say the wreath had to be tossed. Good luck.

  30. Mommy started giggling when she saw the picture of the ribbons then the next picture of the nest at the corner. We hope your Mom has better luck keeping the birdies away from the door!

  31. Gee Madi, your Mom is very inventive with the bird-nest-prevention techniques! As for the box - I say if you like it there, there it should be!!!

  32. Hey Madi...saw your bird response on my blog. BOL Well, I guess your mom is right then to block those silly birds. The birds here nest in our small trees...its nice because we can see them but they aren't in the way. maybe she needs to put a sign up over the door that says "Perfect Nesting Trees THIS Way" with an arrow pointing to the trees?!? That should do it!

  33. Madi we think your Mom is very nice and is trying to do what is best for all and she sure is smart to come up with all of those ideas to move that Momma birdie along to another spot to nest. We love what you said about owning your Mom & Dad's hearts.

  34. not a good place for a nest, for anyone. I would love to seeing the flying leap to the box! :)

  35. OMC BIRDIES!!
We used to have a bird nest on a ledge on our deck beside a flower pot, three blue little eggs and then when they hatched we took some pics, but Mikko got outside and it didn't end well...I cried a bit :(
    Anyway, have a pawsome day!

  37. Howdy Madi. Oh it's sad the little bird wants to build on your door when it's not the right spot. We hope it finds another area where you could watch and it will be safe. Madi, have we ever told you our mum says you are the spitting image of our angel sissy Freckle?? One day when mum isn't soooo lazy, she will drag out the suitcase full of old photos and find her and show you. Don't hold your breath mate, cause she is pretty lazy hehe. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  39. Mama birdie is very persistent isn't she? She needs to find a quieter place to build that nest. Madi, doesn't your Mom know we kitties can see invisible bugs that peeps can't see? Better not tell her, don't want any screaming. We have discovered we can drive our mama crazy if we sit on the table and stare at the ceiling. She will try to find what we are watching but she never sees anything.

  40. Oh,you know those burdies can be stubborn little thingies!! and yes..messy!!!
You should see all the burdie poops! I wish I could give you some suggestions, the pointy thingies that the Woos suggested can definitely work. They even come in clear plastic so they don't show too much!
Oh, I loves your box there Madi...what would you do without it???
Your Moms should just give in and decorate it and be done with it!! BOL

    Ruby ♥

  41. Just cuz SHE did not see what you were looking at does not mean it wasn't there! We had birdies build a nest at the front door and now every year they come back and dad fights with them to NOT build another nest.

  42. We knew there was something that you were looking at. Good luck convincing the birdie to nest somewhere else.

  43. If the birdie doesn't get to build its nest there, what will you watch, Madi? Your mom didn't think of that. :)
