THURSDAY 'HOT' TALE

Friday, August 21, we awoke to a cool house.
My peeps went out to breakfast...when the came home
it was hot as blue blazes in the house...I was so hot I thought I might melt. Mom called for service...they came at 4 pm.
They told us our air conditioner had gone to the rainbow bridge...and they could not get us another one until, Monday
8/24.  Thus began a very hot and long weekend w/o ac in the
South.  In case you didn't know there is a saying that
Southern gals don't sweat...they glow....
I'm here to tell you we gals sweat like hogs for 4 days and 3 nights!!
Thankfully we have storm windows with screens so we
could open the windows....and mom bought 2 floor
fans...one was sitting at the window here I made use of it too
It was so hot where the desktop lives upstairs mom
didn't go up there for 3 days!!
We could have gone to a hotel but you know we cats don't like
change...it stresses us a ton...and after all my tummy troubles in
Feb., March and April we didn't need it stressed out.
Mom knew I'd be scared in a hotel and yowl a lot so
we stay home.  It wasn't pleasant but we managed...
as my granny used to say it isn't the problem, it is how you handle it.

Dad and I did ok but mom started doing strange things like
sit on the floor by the fan then thinking it would be funny to take this photo......it might have been the heat or maybe she is just crazy!!! Mom is about 7 in this picture. Don't tell her but I was MOLing in my head at her crazy hair do

We are happy to say promptly at 9:30 am Monday 8/24
Billy and Cody from Service Experts came to our house
with a new air conditioner...It took about 4 hours to
kick the old one(on the right in back) to the curb and install the new one...
We are happy to say we are no longer a hot mess here
we are all cool cats!!  No sweating and not even any
glowing!!

  1. I am so glad you got it fixed Sissy cause I thought you melted in that first picture. I got real scared. Wheeeeeeeeeew!! Our got broked too a few weeks ago but they came pretty quick and fixed it. We had fans too and I like them blowing on me.

  2. Paws up for the new air conditioner! A few years ago - long before I was even born - the electricity went out on our street during a big heat wave, and stayed out for several days. My human virtually moved out of the house, mainly because she wanted the internet, but also because it was hot! She went to air conditioned libraries and coffee shops and only came home to check up on the cats and to sleep. She actually put wet towels on them to keep them cool.

  3. Bless your hot hearts!!! We have been there and it wasn't pretty here, either. So glad to hear you have your AC back. It is too hot around this part of the country for us to go without. (especially when you are used to it!)
Sounds like y'all have earned a nice, quite week and a few naps.

  5. Bwahaahaa! Could have been worse. You southern girls could have been dressed in corsets and loads of petticoats and NO air conditioning! Just be happy it was only a couple of days AND that your pawrents didn't take themselves off to a hotel!

i never had a/c in OZ... on the days when it really got ridiculous, I would wet some towels and hang them in front of the fans... worked a treat! Glad you managed to get through your spell, Madi, even if mum did appear to suffer a little with heat stroke!!! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx

  23. Guess we don't know how much we appreciate that cool air until we don't have it. What a difficult weekend that must have been! Mom had that same hairdo at about the same age. We will have to see if she can dig it out and scan it:).

  24. You must have been glowing alright. That is nutty to have no AC in the south. What next! Did mom stink?

  25. Yes, that usually happens at the worst time but we are sure glad it's all fixed up now pretty Madi.

    ReplyDelete
  26. PHEW! I'm glad you got it replaced. No AC is NOTHING to fool around with.

    ReplyDelete
  27. During 3 different summers we've been without AC.
One year long ago it happened in triple digits mid-July. Mom and Dad were without furbabies then so she went and stayed with family...it was beyond hot. We also had to replace the AC unit in this house TWICE! We knew when we moved in the unit that was working was gonna crap out. It did the next year and then that one lasted for about 15 which is a long time -- or about the life expectancy. Mom says she has no problem spending $$ on an AC unit. Not in the South, not in FL!

  28. We have only had central A/C for the last few years. Mom doesn't know how they ever did without it!

  29. We are glad to hear you have air conditioning again! I can't imagine how the pioneers survived without it.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Our mom would have melted if she had to endure that many days without AC in the summer heat and humidity.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am glad you got a new AC. How old as the other one? Our central air is 20 years old now and sometimes gives us trouble. Flat Madi was nice and cool .

    ReplyDelete
  32. Whew! We're glad your air got fixed, Madi. Otherwise you might have melted into a puddle of fur by now.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Glad you got a new AC unit. I hate to tell you this but that picture of your Mom looks like most younger girls picture during that same time. I know I have a few. I just try to get it out of my head,so I don't go crazy. What were our Mothers thinking?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh, you knows I loves my AC!!!! OMD, I don't knows how you survived!!!!! Okays, yes I do...LOTS OF MARGARITAS!!!!! You knows it! You were just drunk as skunks for 4 days!!!! hehehehehe Ma said that before AC, she used to lay in bed with a fan and a spray bottle full of water (yeah...that sounds kinda dirty...what in the world! I'll need to gets some clarification on that....)
It was the only way to keep cool! I'm glads your Flufffffffy Diva Tail made it through, and you can resume your normal duties...
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥
