FFHT and Birthday wishes

Today we join Murphy and Stanley for.....

the phrase this month is

I NEEDED A GOOD EXCUSE FOR.....

As you may (or may not) remember, we have had at least 87 giant
pine trees removed from our yard since June 2014.  Many were due to location and many were partially maimed by the February 2015 ice storm causing their parts and pieces to almost fall on Gracie the Highlander.  As soon as spring arrived neighbors all around us started having trees removed too.  In fact, one tree company on our street somewhere for 13 days.  OMCs soon after all the trees came down, I kept hearing the peeps talk about our natural area being a  mini forest of pine saplings.
I needed a good excuse to....send Mom out into mini forest to take pictures...  I don't like getting my feets dirty and I especially don't like hot weather, so Mini Madi went with Mom to give you an idea of the depth of our forest.

I'm happy to report a forest ranger will working here soon to level all the ground, remove the
saplings before they become giant sequoias.  In the fall, we'll have some bulbs, crepe myrtle and azaleas

Thursday 'Tater Tale

Monday afternoon I was taking my 87th cat nap of the day when
all of a sudden I hear a kerplunk on the table.

Mom was chattering away about what a find she had and how it was a happy accident yada yada yada!  So I decided to
pop up for a look-see, per chance it was FOR ME
OMCs it wasn't for me but it did smell most interesting
and well you know when the moms are excited it is contagious.
I'll let mom tell you about the Happy Accident....
Mom here:   Last week in the produce area of the  grocery store I 'meant' to buy a 3 lb bag of  fresh *new taters (*that is what we call red 'taters here in the South). Monday night as I was preparing to cook them, I noticed  I had something new. Steamables tripled washed and ready to cook in the bag in the microwave in 8 minutes.  I normally cook new 'taters in my pressure cooker.  However, as hot as it was I thought what the heck.  I was just a tad skeptical they would cook in 8 minutes because all of the taters were not the same size.  Color me surprised, when after 8 minutes, I took them out of the microwave let them sit for 1 minute, cut open the bag to find they were completely done.
AND DELICIOUS exactly enough for 2 piggies like
Madi's peeps.

Yep the bag was right up in the left hand corner is says
side delights!! I will be buying these jewels AGAIN!!

Bravo for Special Moments Photo Contest

After begging for 87 minutes Mom finally decided to let me pawticipate with everyone joining   Oz as he is hosting a Bravo For Special Moments Photo Contest from.  Today is the last day...
I guess better late than not at all!!

Click here to read all about it!!

My peeps get the news paper on the weekends....so it is purrty special for me 'cause I get to be Mom's paper weight
and I get lots of special attention!!

I'm not much of a lap cat but every so often I give mom a special treat my letting her hold me

Even though this says "Madi not having fun" I know how very lucky I am to have a mom
who loves me a ton.  She makes sure I have all my checkups. She knows I love her too
because I serenade her with the song of my people the entire trip to the vet.

I have free reign of the entire house (well except Dad's train room)
I get to do lots of exploring.  OMCs do those shoes have tales to tell too

Mom is always open to suggestions I have to make my life more special....like here
I'm asking politely if perhaps she might have missed the fact that it is din-din time!
!

I'm admiring the crochet afghan Mom made for me....yep just for me
cause she loves me...and she let me help corral the yarn while she made it.

This photo sums up my special moments here in my abode.
We love each other unconditionally!

Bravo Oz you are a special friend!!

Darwin-lite Award Competition

I AM THRILLED TO BE PAWTICIPATING IN
Blogville Chief Scientific Advisor
DARWIN-LITE AWARD COMPETITION
Bertie said....
To enter, please leave a comment on this post, either (1) describing the episode in sufficient detail for the incredible stupidity of the human involved to be plain for all to see, or (2) referencing an explanatory post on your own blog.  You may join this blog hop from now until the deadline on 30/6.. across The Pond or 6/30 here in the US of A.  MOL MOL MOL

Let me give you a little background.  This TRUE story happened in the summer of
1974, B.M. (before Madi). Characters involved were my very smart human Sissy who was 3, her friend Christy and my mom (who as it turns out was not very smart).  There are no pictures  but thank goodness for the internet we grabbed a few for dramatic affect.
*****************
It was a hot summer day, Christy came over to play with sissy for the day.  When Christy arrived, she was wearing sandals similar to these.

However, they were just a tad too big.  The girls wanted to go out to play but Christy  needed shoes.  There were no more holes in the straps to make them tighter so mom decided to put an extra hole in each strap.  Being inventive, Mom decided one of her small crochet hooks like this would be purrfect (not).  The hook end of the
hook is on the left of the picture as you can see it is very small

Sooooooo mom takes the sandal strap in her left hand and the hook in her right...starts slowing pushing through the strap....it goes through the strap AND INTO MOM'S LEFT THUMB.
Thankful she didn't panic or faint!!
MOM REALIZED SHE WAS IN deep do do.  The itty bitty hook on the end was just BIG enough to keep Mom from being able to get it out.  Mom could not let go of the sandal because it would dangle and cause a ton of pain.  MOM needed help...she could not
remember the phone number of the closest neighbor who was home.  So she told Sissy they needed to call Dad who was at work to tell him what had happened.
Thank goodness my Sissy knew numbers and loved talking on the phone. Mom told sis to push a chair up to the phone.  Mom told Sis Dad's phone number one digit at a time.  Sis dialed it perfectly. (Dad worked about 35 minutes from home).  When Dad answered, Sis said hey Daddy,
Mommy has a hook in her hand.  Then sis hung up the phone.  After all, mom just said to tell Dad what happened.
Thank goodness Dad was SMART he called the nearest neighbor to ask her to go to our house lickety split.  When she arrived, with her 2 children, she called Dad back.  Lo and Behold they decided that she would drive Mom, Sis and Christy to the ER and he would meet her there. The ER staff were very curious as to how this happened and are probably still talking about the dumb
lady who thought she could repair a shoe.
Yep the crochet hook had to be cut out of mom's thumb...and she had to get a tetanus shot...which was also painful for days.
Mom said the shot to deaden the thumb hurt worse than the hook when she pushed it in her thumb.  After it was out, the smarty pants ER doctor try to give it back to Mom....she gave him her best Mom glare while telling him to
THROW IT AWAY!!

So peeps and critters the moral to this story is leave shoe repairs to the professionals!!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

We wish all the Dads of 2 and 4
leggers a very wonderful day full
of family, fun, food whatever makes you happy.

My Sis sent Dad some yummy nuts...Dad is a
nut about nuts.
Mom found the box on the front porch on  June 16,
when it was 100 degrees outside.  She told Dad
the honey roasted nuts were twice Roasted.
