Dachshund Chronicles: Where did he come from
Random Toto story (1974-1984) first family pet: As much as I hate to admit it....I believe Toto came from a bad breeder. I like to think we saved him. He was 4 months old when we brought him home. He did come with some 'baggage'. Within two days of being home, he had a major case of tonsilitis. He was so small (3 lbs) we could not give him all the meds at one time. It was every two hours for 7 days. I had a newborn again. As you know from all the previous stories this ended well. He was up and about in no time and barking like a champ. Other issue were his fears. He was afraid of all men, except my husband. He was afraid of brooms and he was afraid of hats. So if a man came in the house wearing a hat, with a broom Toto turned into a little pile of quivering reddness. He conquered the broom thing quickly. We still had a few more months to deal with the man and the hat issue. My dad wore a hat and had a booming voice. If he walked into our house with the hat on, Toto would roll over on his back in total submission and wet in the air (even if he had just had a potty break). Of course the pee landed back on Toto which required an immediate bath, which he did not like either....they made him smell un-MANLY. Daddy finally started leaving his hat in the car when he came to visit and he used his 'inside voice' around Toto. We were his first owners so these fears had to have been developed at the breeders. After about 6 months of age he became FEARLESS nothing was too big for him to tackle.... as you have read in previous posts. He was TNT on four short stubby legs.

Madi:Friday Friends & 100th blog day
Happy 100th blog Friday to everyone near and far. In June 2009 Mom and I not only to step outside our box, we took a giant leap into cyberspace of blogging. Mom will be the first person to say she is not a TECHIE. Somehow we (Madi sat on the floor cheering me on) managed to create a blog, and learn to download pictures.
At that time, Mom was not even sure she had one blog post in her. Here we are today at #100. Her efforts would not have matter without the support and encouragement of each and everyone who has visited to blog and written such nice comments each day. So we applaud all our blogging friends for the effort they put into their blog with each post. MADI and Mom

Dachshund Chronicles: Just one more....Fig Newton
9/28/09: Another Toto story...we're a day late with it due to Mom discovering how to make videos over this past weekend.
Rewind to another decade...late 1970's.....
We're on another trip to Atlantic Beach, NC. On every trip we always stopped for a potty break at Neuse Sport's Shop in Kinston, NC. This particular time we humans had been snacking on Fig Newtons. When we stopped, I closed up the bag put them in the dashboard of the car. I got out with Toto while my husband and daughter went inside. It was early spring so when Toto finished checking and leaving pee mail, I put him in the car for a quick trip inside. As we exited Neuse Sports Shop, I could see our car. To my amazement Toto had some how stretched his very short body to reach the dashboard where the Fig Newtons were stashed. My husband is 5'11", the seat was as all the way back. This was a long stretch even for a dachshund. Toto saw me about the same time I saw him. He looked at me, then he looked at the Fig Newtons, then back at me. Finally took one last gobble of Fig Newtons as if to say, 'I see you but you aren't here yet so here I go'. We estimated he ate about 10 of the cookies before we got to the car. It was a deep dashboard. We still don't know exactly how he got to them. Anyone who is owned by a dachshund knows where there is a will there is a way. Thankfully we got to the beach and out of the car before Toto had a major case of the runs!!! Every time he had to go out he'd look at me pathetically as if to say, 'I know I messed up I'm so sorry....please help me'. Bless his little heart he had a rough few days.

Video Madi wants her supper NOW!!!!
This is Mom's 80 millionth video of the weekend...and should explain why I was pouting/ignorning her yesterday. The things I've put up with this weekend....me eating...too dark and grainy, me rolling around on the floor not quite enough action, me bathing, still in the can to be loaded and now this one just made....it is 4:30 time for my supper and once again Mom's is on the computer and I'm not happy. After playing this video you'll know what a Diva Island Princess sounds like when she is hungry.
