SATURDAY SEALS OF APPROVAL

Happy Saturday all.. I have two seals of approval to talk about today.
1.  My Annual Vet Visit
We are sorry no pictures of me going to/from the Vet.  It was 100 degrees when we left toooooooo hot for anyphotos.Dad cooled off the car for 10 min. before we left and they had the vents blowing right on me and I yowled all of the 8 minutes it takes to drive to my vet. MOL
My wonderful vet gave me his seal of approval at my annual checkup yesterday.

He was extremely complimentary of my girlish figure.  Last year I tipped (the scales over) at a
full figured 12.1 lb....this year I weighed 11.2 lb...Mom was so proud of me she gave me
8 pieces of kibble, yes she counted every one of them, when we got home. They stole some of my blood for a Diva blood panel. Mom had a talk with the Vet tech as soon as we arrived.  Mom strongly suggested she not mention Senior blood panel.  My vet told Mom he'd call her on Monday after he compared them with last years.
2. Mom bought some new walking shoes on Thursday. In the below video, I'm giving them my seal of approval

As if this freaky Friday isn't bad enough with purple hand on my counter,  today July 29 at 1:30 pm I have my annaul physical.  I heard Mom tell Dad they were going to do a senior blood panel.  I'm purrty sure they must be referring to Mom since she is older than dirt.  However, if by chance, it is me they are calling 'senior', rest assured by the time I leave they will all KNOW to call me Ms. Diva and not SENIOR.

Mom's favorite furry/feathery things

#1. ME, MADI THE DIVA CAT
I especially like sitting right here where I can be in the middle of everything.  This spot is half way between the kitchen and the family room.

#2. RUBY THROATED HUMMERS
BELOW IS THE ADULT MALE RUBY THROATED TAKEN July 19, 2011

Mom here: I've  been trying for 87 million years to get a good picture of 'MY' hummer.  I have pictures but they are fuzzy due to the speed of these little guy. This adult male and a juvenile were performing the most amazing aerial show on Tuesday night. This fellow is not posing for me he is standing guard over "HIS" hummingbird feeder.  Hummers need a refresher course in

The cedar he is perched it is directly behind the feeder.  It is a 'rescued cedar'. I call it a Hoft Cedar because that was the name company where I worked 30 years ago.  It was about a foot tall happily growing by the front door of the office when someone decided it had to go. I planted it in the back yard.  It is now about 20' tall. I'm so happy I rescued it the hummers and all the other backyard birds perching in it during their eating breaks.

OAK ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE VACATION PICS #3

Visitors to Oak Island Lighthouse do not have inside access.

Since Mom could not get a picture from the top of the lighthouse,

she decided to take a picture of the top of me, which is very odd. I think all the hot weather is getting to Mom's gray matter. MOL We hope you enjoy the last (I hear a collective sigh of joy from all of you) of the peeps vacation pictures.

Oak Island Lighthouse was built in 1958. It was one of the last lighthouses built in America and the last manually operated one in the world.   This sign sits at the base of the lighthouse. The base was anchored 70' below the ground to make it strong enough to support

the 169' tower.No tours of the interior of Oak Island. 

 It was illuminated for the first time on May 15, 1958. Marine helicopters were needed to put the lamp in place.

The tower is made of eight-inch-thick reinforced concrete.

The black and white paint gives it very distinctive markings.

The paint was mixed with concrete so that the lighthouse would never need repainting.  The lighthouse is in a

 Coast Guard compound.  The Coast Guard oversees the light tower.  One person climbs the 134 steps weekly to inspect the lights.

 I took the below picture of Oak Island Lighthouse from the Bald Island Lighthouse ferry...amazingly...I had no idea I snapped just as the beaconlight flashed, it was my lucky day for sure.  The tower houses four thousand-watt aerobeam lights which flash intermittently and can be seen 24 miles out to sea.  With its 2,500,000 candlepower Oak Island is one of the most powerful lighthouses in the world. It is switched on manually each evening from the base of the tower and switched off each morning.

Tours of the lighthouse are offered to the public by appointment.

you'll see Bald Head Island Lighthouse.

 This stretch of beach is behind the Coast Gaurd Compound.

Nothing but beautiful sand and sea.

Steeple Sunday #36: Village of Bald Head Island Chapel

What a surprise to find this beautiful Chapel on Bald Head Island.

As you can see it sits on a lovely piece of land nestled in the trees and bathed in the morning sun. 

On Easter Sunday 1984 the first organized worship service of property owners on the Island was held at the former Bald Head Island Inn. The chapel sits adjacent to the Bald Island Lighthouse. Ground breaking ceremonies for the chapel were held on Easter Sunday 1986 and the Chapel was completed in time for Dedication on Easter Sunday 1987.

The architect was Clovis Heimsath from Texas.  His designed the Chapel in the 19th century Carolina Coastal Style.

A beautiful undisturbed Bald Head Creek and Middle Island are behind the Chapel

The Chapel is a very popular location for 'destination weddings'.

I could not find a good spot get the entire steeple in the picture because of all the trees the top section of the steeple is

shown below.

I was amazed by all the windows in the small Chapel.

Can you imagine the beautiful wedding pictures that have been taken here.

Exposed wooden beams are throughout the Chapel's ceiling.

I'd love to have heard the pipe organ.

 

The stained glass window in the balcony was designed by Marianne Heimsath, the wife of the architect.

The chapel has a Chapel Administrator, an organist/music director

and pianist.  The pianist, her husband, 1 dog and 2 cats are full time residents of Bald Head Island
