Toto flashback:34 years later he still makes us laugh

There wasn't much Toto hated worse than getting wet and cold. In order to get him to potty in the rain, I had to go out with a golf umbrella held directly over him. As you know, I'm in NC the land of hot, hazy, humid weather. We rarely see more than 3 or 4 inches a snow a year. On a Saturday in March of 1979 we awoke to very unusually cold day for March. By noon, the weather forecast was for several inches of snow. We had plenty of groceries it was a weekend so we hunkered down for the day. On Sunday morning we awoke to 18"of snow on the ground and still falling. I had one very excited child singing no school tomorrow and one wee red mini who needed to potty. Why did I think when opened the door he would go willingly? When he got one sniff of the cold air, tucked his tail and ran for cover. I gently reminded him he was German and that his kind liked snow. He wasn't buying what I was trying to sale. Ok, I think I'm the human I'll take charge. I picked him up, opened the front door. I kicked some of the snow out of the way with the expectation that he was about to pop and would quickly potty and come right back. Oh my word was I wrong. All of a sudden his German genes kicked in, he sniffed at the snow, and off he went. He was tunneling through the front yard in 18" of snow with about 14" above his head. Every so often he'd hop up to look for us all you could see was the black nose that looked like a periscope. He was in dachshund heaven he had found his purpose in life. He was running at Dach Mach speed. Now, if he could have just found a badger he would have been a happy, hopping mini Doxie. This photo of Toto was taken in 1985.

Nature Friday with Kat...my Nephew

Recently  I rec'd a darling email and video from, Kat, my refine nephew.
Have I mentioned how adorably handsome and sweet Kat is?

Dearest Aunty HiC,
Mom and I are enjoying watching Mr. and Mrs. Wren take care of their babies.  I’m still not sure how such a little birdie can make so much noise. 😹
Oh well, think I’ll take a nap.
❤️ Your Feline Nephew Kat

My reply:
Dearest Precious Nephew...
Aunty is running late for a very impawtant date with her favorite nephew.  OMCs Uncle and I went to the grocery store, unloaded the vittles then we had to get our ears lowered (ask Mom to 'plain that to you), and have lunch.
Oh boy do I hear you about the birdies I think the smaller they are the louder they sing.  Thank you for the precious photo and award winning video.
OMCs you have an honest to goodness real live Wren house on the tree too.
Lovingly your Aunty HiC

Thoroughly Poetic Pictorial Thursday

Today we join Two  SPOILED CATS
Angel Sammy and Teddy for their poetic pictorial poem.
Here is our photo challenge

TWO
this is 200% a true poem

TWO
I once knew a lady who was expecting twins.
She knew for months they would be boys.
She spent her pregnancy preparing
she bought two of everything clothes, beds and toys.
She pondered the names but did not tell
until they were born.
They were identical from the top of their heads
to the tip of their chubby toes.
To friends and family she gave not a clue.
She just smiled like she knew a big secret
Finally we were introduced to

Charles Issac and Issac Charles.

We all scratched our heads
finding it hard to hide surprise
when the names were read.
The End

*************************************
Yes this is true.  I bit my tongue to keep from asking
W H A T in the world possessed you?  After all, it was none of my business
I was just a co-worker.   So many questions ran thru my head.  I must have looked stunned.   Finally, I was told she liked both names. She wanted to use both names daily.  She would call one Charles and one Issac.
Eventually she changed jobs and I lost track of her.
I suspect along the way the boys had fun telling their names and the story.

WOW Wednesday...too pretty to be wordless

My Friend Kathy lives on the beautiful Coast of Oregon.
Kathy is currently recuperating from knee replacement.
Her hubby and Molly the Golden Retriever have been walking w/o her.

Friday, June 7, Molly and her dad, Grant, sent Kathy this photo they took
Saying, "wish you were here".
Grant was walking along Coquille Point and looking down on Elephant Rock at a minus low tide.
Our Molly Walk takes us to there every day.
Today she came back panting, must be warmer than it has been.

Retirement Party for Sassy Singer

Good morning Friends

Thank you for joining me today to celebrate Sassy's
25 years of devoted service.

Sassy is a third generation
employee.  She and her granny and great granny were always here to
work tirelessly by my side.

Sassy had one last hooray before deciding to retire.
In March  of this year I decided I wanted to get back to my very first hobby
Sewing,
which I started at about ten years of age.
I dusted her off, took here in for a check up and off we went.

Sassy even jumped in presser foot (sewing machine lingo) first when I decided to try quilting.
Once again she proved to be very versatile and capable.

bottom right:3rd quilt

After she announced her plans to retire, I started an intense search for
a new sidekick.  I asked friends, relatives and the interwebs.
I learned quickly that I needed someone with more stamina to
be my sidekick for bigger quilting projects.  Of course
the applicant pool was full of potential employees to fill the position.
Many demanding a huge hourly salary, of course they are worth every
penny too.  However, I am not planning a profession in sewing.
I was quickly able to take many of them out of the applicant pool.

I am a Singer Girl through and through so I decided on
Singer Patchwork #7285Q
Introducing Saucy Singer.  Saucy because she is hot as fire and ready to soar.

Saucy has 100 Built in stitches
auto threader for OLD as Dirt eyes
11 presser foots  and 4 bonus Quilting feet

 Extension table for large work
she can applique
has all kinds of automatic features
easy bobbin
makes buttonholes in one step
Oh I could sing Saucy's praises all day long
I can see already Saucy and I are gonna be BFFs
Of course stay tuned for new projects but first I Saucy and I
need to get fully acquainted.  I have several mending projects, hemming etc
saved up for Saucy.

And she was on sale!!
