Yesterday morning, July 3, 2021, was a day like no other.
We awoke to 59 degrees in NC in July. UNHEARD OF TEMPERATURE
I left home about 7:30 am for a lovely walk in the 'hood.
On my route back home there was a K9 horse (Great Dane) in front of me walking his owner.
As I approached, he spoke/barked. Once his owner and I started talking he decided I was OK. His owner said he is quite protective of her.
I did not get a photo nor did I ask, or pet him.
I decided to be happy just to walk and talk with that handsome pup
walking between us. I guess he wanted to make sure I didn't misbehave.
His name is LeRoy, he is 3 years old, weighs 120 lbs., which she said was small for a male Great Dane. All four of his paws were white.
His fur was a mix of mostly charcoal gray and black. He has a chocolate Lab brudder. She said when the Lab is with them LeRoy is twice a protective.
Crepe Myrtle Update
Saturday morning it was still drooping.
Thankfully the limb was not broken. Bryan shook off all the water and propped it up with a rake
That is the exact same temperature we have been getting lately. The humidity is 95% so I don't want it getting any warmer. It is actually about our average summer temperature so when they forecast a heatwave which usually misses us down here, we can't stand the heat.
ReplyDeleteI am glad the crepe myrtle limb survived. The rake is a good standby but maybe it would be an idea to stake it before the next rain storm. I have had to do that to some of my taller roses. We have had 4 inches of rain in the last 24 hours, mostly overnight. I haven't seen the news yet but would think there has been flooding. We were forecast local thunderstorms and I think it must have dropped all the rain on us!
We are having those same temps this morning and we are very happy about it! We hope the rake helps and the crepe myrtle stands tall again. Have a Happy 4th!

ReplyDeletethe climate, I think we can all agree, is a mess... thankfully, Myrtle has been put together and is not! Golly, leRoy sounds like quite the boy... YAM xx
The weather sure is crazy everywhere! Glad you enjoyed a little time with the K9 horse lol. I hope the Crepe Myrtle will stay up on it's own soon. Have a nice 4th of July! :)
ReplyDeleteBryan might have to take a string and use it to keep it held up (lol....if he needs the rake for something else).
ReplyDeletehere's hoping the rake fix works well and that beautiful limb is not lost. phooey on no photo of the horse/dog. ha ha.. he weighs about 40 lbs more that Beau and Big...
ReplyDeleteGlad you met that big doggy and his owner and had a chat! Nice to know how about people who live around you. That crepe myrtle will get its' strength back and hold its' beautiful purple blooms up high again thanks to that "prop" !!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Pam
Your woofie friend sure is a big one! Come on Myrtle, straighten up. Happy Independence Day!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th! Enjoy your FOOD! Still haven't decided what we are going to grill. The Crepe Myrtles did well with the rake. Jerry wants to make his baked beans... maybe that's all we will have... baked beans and bread with butter!
ReplyDeleteThat sure is a big pup! We hope the Crepe Myrtle can stand up on its own soon.
ReplyDeleteI think that purple color is the pretties crepe myrtle there is! I have a few in my yard although the majority I owe are the pink, but the purple is just outstanding!
ReplyDeleteHappy July 4th to all!
Crepe Myrtle looks much better. Happy 4th! XO
ReplyDeleteWow! We haven't seen a great Dane in ages!
ReplyDeleteThose flowers are beautiful!
Have a happy 4th of July!
Gosh I hope it stays propped and that it gains its strength. I will go backward and see if you told us what happened.
ReplyDeleteWow, we think LeRoy is huge - only 5 lb less than Gail! We are glad he was well-behaved.
ReplyDeleteThe crepe myrtle is so pretty.
Here in Torridon it's been a lovely warm weekend - just a shame Gail spent most of it cleaning up after the builder... But she did go swimming TWICE in the chilly loch.
Happy 4th July.
Toodle pip!
Bertie (and Gail).
We had some terrific weather for a couple of days…cooler but sunny. But all changed today…back to 90 degrees! Happy 4ht of July!
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence Day. A day when you can meet a new dog friend on a walk is a good day.
ReplyDeleteWow! I can only dream about it being that cool! And that dog is BIG! There was one in the townhouse across from us in Richmond. He was like a cat, he sept the day away curled up on the sofa and was one of the gentlest dogs I've ever met. Cinnamon sure liked to bark at him though. I love the color of the blooms on the Crepe Myrtle, gorgeous! I hope it recovers. Happy Independence Day.
ReplyDelete120 pounds small?? I think I'll stick with mini schnauzers! Our weather has been in the low 60's in the early morning, and we've been taking advantage of it, too. Hope y'all had a good Holiday weekend.
ReplyDeleteHe was small for the breed I think. Dads sister had a Wolfhound who was 150. Dad says he was a dork because sister never trained him at all. Sad for him, he would have been awesome. Anyoo purrs for Crepe!
