Dear Auntie HiC,
After Mom’s mother passed away in 2001, she couldn’t bear to be home for Christmas. She & Dad spent the next 3 Christmases in one of their favorite destinations, Alaska.
This is a compilation of the their trips.
They stayed in a beautiful cabin at Taste of Alaska Lodge near Fairbanks.
The owner cut a small tree for the peeps to decorate in their cabin.
On Christmas Eve they visited Santa Claus House in North Pole, AK.
Mom even kissed a reindeer! Yuck! 😹
But that didn’t stop Dad from cross-country skiing, & Mom from taking a sled dog ride

Such wonderful times in Alaska! We have been only once and loved it. We went in June though and it was sunny and warm. I don't think I could stand that extreme cold. I am a shivering wreck if it gets to 35F, and any lower and you can't drag me away from the wood burner!
ReplyDeleteThat would make for a very memorable Christmas. I noticed the temp but also noticed those gas prices. Wouldn't it be nice to see those again?
ReplyDeleteI would go to Alaska just for the chance to kiss a reindeer. ho ho ho... yikes, the coldest temps I have ever been in is 16 F and I was not that happy with that. I wonder if the reindeer could come here.. I bundle up at 67
ReplyDeleteAngel Madie it was sweet of you to share this trip from Ms Kit. We think it was very brave of them to go up there where it was so bitterly cold. Lynn says she's not much likely to do that. And I don't think as a kitty I would like it much either. We are thinking the holidays in front of a big roaring fire in it giant Stone fireplace.

ReplyDeleteOh my, what a wonderful experience! Count me a little green with jelly - although, to be fair, I've had my share of adventure in life, so can't really be envious. But to kiss a Reindeer...!!! YAM xx
Wonderful memories! I definitely would kiss a reindeer, I've certainly kissed lots of horses. But the cold...!!! Our winters in southeastern Ontario are cold enough, thanks! 🥶
ReplyDeleteMom says that is very interesting. She was in AK a lot but only twice in December and she said that time of year was way too depressing to be there. Glad you enjoyed it and had fun times with lots of memories. Mom likes the short winter days here at home but in AK never really getting light out was too much. She prefers being there in June.
ReplyDeleteKissing a reindeer AND a sled dog ride?? Christmas in Alaska sounds beautiful!!
ReplyDeletehugs, Beth and the Girls
That sure is a cold place to visit for Christmas, but it looked like they were having fun.
ReplyDeleteThat looked cold! What fun to go on a dog sled ride. Your mom is brave to face the cold. Have a happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteMinus 31!!! It looks like a great time was had but I'm not sure I'd want to venture out of the house at those temps! It is my second Christmas with mom but this one was lots more fun!
ReplyDeleteYikes, that sure would be way too cold for me but I would kiss a reindeer!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is some cold ~ great photos though ~ hope you had a wonderful Christmas ~ an artist reflects'
ReplyDeleteHugs to you and Angel Madi ~ xo
I wouldn't mind trying out the dog sledding.
ReplyDeleteBrrrrrrrrrrr... too cold but I know it is beautiful there. Our Best Man when we were married lives in Anchorage. I would love to kiss a reindeer! Couldn't be much different than kissing a horses warm wet fuzzy nose. That had to be a wonderful trip and experience.
ReplyDeleteOh I loved every word and every picture!!!! Cali, Kat and Rocky, you have premier parents! Wait till they take YOU three to AK. Wow! You'll see Santa and the Reindeer. I know you can't wait! Kat, I miss you, baby! xxoo
ReplyDeleteWhat great experiences, and just what the doctor ordered in the way of change of scenery for the Christmas holidays!
