Snowy Flashback 2010 and 2018

BREAKING NEWS TODAY JANUARY 25, 2026

Thankful we have mostly sleet today...there was freezing rain early. Sleet does not stick to trees or power lines like freezing rain

WE HAVE POWER...so far.

The rest of the story will be featured on FFF and Nature Friday

Below is another fountain in the Gardens at WRAL it too froze in motion.

This is one monster icicle

As of 6pm on Saturday 1/8/18 Raleigh had over 180 consecutive hours of temperatures below freezing and many days only 20 degrees and some nights in the single digits...VERY x 87 million unusual for us.  WRAL TV has a fountain in front of the tv station.
To keep the water pipes from busting they have to leave the fountain running or drain it completely.
Over the years it has become a very popular place to take winter photos.
This one was taken 1/6/18
We are tickled pink to say our high yesterday was a balmy 46 tropical degrees

  4. I hope the weather isn't too bad for you during this storm. We're just getting lots of snow, but we can handle that.

  5. Very impressive ice fountains... yikes! I am seeing light wintry mix for you but later the ice seems to get down to business. Hopefully it wears itself out. Stay safe, stay warm and fingers crossed the power stays on!

  7. The frozen fountains are really "beautiful sculptures" ... reminding me of our years in Michigan, living near the shores of the lake and how the waves often "froze in motion" staying that way throughout the winter, some like to say "sculpted by the Almighty hand".

  8. I'm glad you still have power, keep plenty warm up there. We're okay so far but the really nasty round 2 is coming this way with maybe thunder ice.

  9. I pray we all stay safe and warm, with power. Those are amazing photos.

  10. Oh my goodness. I love the fountain! I have never seen on in that state before. We had maybe an inch of snow and then the ice storm hit us. No one is about around here. Lost power off and on thru the night. I was hoping that I could make coffee when I got up. I could but the filter folded over and the coffee was pale tan water.
