Thoroughly Thankful and Poetic Thursday# 246

Today is Poetic Thursday hosted by our pals Teddy and Angel Sammy at

This week's photo challenge which is also my thankful

A true story:

1967 I was a senior in high school
To quote Rizzo from the Pink Ladies in Grease

We are seniors and we are gonna rule the school.

Prom Committee, our advisor was my all time favorite teacher
Miss Kilby, Home Economics and my homeroom teacher.

She needed volunteers...of course I raised my hand.
A bit too quickly it seems, she wanted at least two sets of parents to volunteer for Prom Chaperones.
WHAT the heck my parents were going to my
PROM!!! So not cool.
The Parent volunteers were all teens in the 1940's the only activities
were dancing. This prom went on record as the best prom in 5 years.
The chaperones turned into dance teachers.
They taught us all how to Jitterbug we taught them how to do the Twist.
Oh do I wish there had been pictures.  The dance floor was hopping.
I was so very THANKFUL to have such cool, fun parents. I knew they loved to dance but had never actually witnessed such fancy foot work.

Side Note:
My daddy was an electrical contractor.  He volunteered to do all the electrical work for the special prom lights. It looked like a thousand tiny stars overhead.
It was just too COOL
how they transformed the
SCHOOL GYM

  1. What a wonderful memory! My parents were chaperones for my high school graduation in 1971.

  2. That story is better than any poem, LOL! What a wonderful memory!
I never went to any school dances, let alone a prom...(Wasn't allowed) I still have no clue about how to dance...I would love to learn ballroom dancing, but I don't think my joints would. Too much OA, and hubby has v=even more of that plague, that he still walks unaided is a wonder, but dancing? Nope. Oh well, there is more to life than dancing!
