Saturday Snow in North Carolina

Hi all yep it is snowing in Dixie....

to all our friends from the Northern states this is no big deal

but.....the last time we had any significant snow was 2005 so it is a

B I G deal to us.

Since Madi knows absolutely nothing about snow, she gave me blogging privileges today.

I snapped this picture of the moon at dusk the night before the snow started.

I cannot get picutres of the birds from inside and when I go outside they scatter; however,
the list of birds I've seen today is:

Woodpeckers: Northern Flicker, Downy and Red bellied. Cardinals, Chickadees, Pine siskin, Yellow rumped warblers,Titmouse, Finches: Purple and House, Eastern Bluebirds,

Brown Thrasher, Robins, Nuthatch, white breasted and brown headed, Dark eyed Juncos and Carolina Wrens.

We even had a crow trying to figure out how to eat suet...this is a first.

Nope my camera lens was not dirty the spots are snow and sleet
This was taken before daybreak this morning.

Front porch. It is quite windy causing drifts
Our little snowman says, "Have a chilly day".
Our little rabbit is saying "help me I'm sinking".

Back porch and deck

Taken from our side yard looking down our street

I snapped this picture from our front door. My car is at the bottom of the driveway

Another interesting picture take before daybreakthe spots are snow. If you click on the picture to enlarge you can see the sleet has settled on top ofabout 3" of snow.
Currently we have about 3" of snow. It has been sleeting steadily for several hours.
Looks like we will be house bound all weekend. The precipitation should end by late afternoon but the temperatures will be in the teens tonight and only in the 20's tomorrow.

Not to worry, we have lots of Diva food, clean litter. The bird feeders are full and oh yes

there is a big pot of chili cooking for the humans.

AND we still have power and heat.

  4. Looks like you got more snow than us this time. We have sun but it's currently 12 degrees. (Because it's soooo cold, our snow crunches and squeaks when we walk on it.)

Stay safe and warm. (I'm thinking good thoughts about the power..)

  12. Snow in Dixie!!! A Big Deal!!!!! For sure!!!
The last time we had snow that was about 3 inches of the white stuff was Christmas 89. We had flurry a couple of times since then. Nothing that stuck. We had flurry the frist of this month!!! We were suppose to get sleet last night but it did not get cold at all, like THEY said it would.

  17. Our official thank you note:

Thank you so much for all the purrs and prayers for our little hansel. It means the world to us- and we truly believe that with everyone in the cb - it's how we got through all of this. We don't know what we'd do without everyone! Hansel is doing very well - walking around, but we did have to put his cone on- as he thinks he should eat his sutures. He is eating, taking meds, drinking, using the litter box, everything is fantastic!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

    -mom bean,
    and the whole gang!

  18. Hi Madi and Mom, I have been telling everyone about your snow in the south and chuckling to myself because you are like delicate flowers and we are so use to it, we love to drive around in the snow! You may be house bond for a while if they can't clean it up! Just be careful and drive safe!! Madi, you better stay inside under the covers..it's just too cold for you outside!!

  19. You got waaaay more snow than what we have here up north!! We have practically nothing! But we have seen some birdies today. We saw a Downy Woodpecker, a Nuthatch and a finch...and a brown squirrel ate most the suet!!

  20. Yep, that snow decided it didn't wanna make its way all the way up here....so you guys got blasted instead....we did get a dusting last night, but thats all. And yes, that crunchy stuff does happen when it switches from being just snow to sleety icey stuff....Now, can I have some of that Chili you made???

  21. Beautiful!!!
We are "snow" jealous...we had lots of sleet and freezing rain and then a dusting of snow...
So many trees are bent over, I hope they recover.
    Be careful!
