Thunderstorm Safety Tips

Kitties, Puppies and 2 leggers!!!!
We had the mother of all thunderstorms on Wednesday....mind you we are not complaining we needed the rain but OMC/OMD
it scared the bejeepers out of me.  So I thought I go over thunderstorm safety today.
#1.
Run like the wind to find your peeps.

I was upstairs taking my 87th nap of the day when the first t-boomer hit.
Rather than reach down to comfort me she reached for the flashy beast.

#2.
Turn your back on the flashy beast and the crazy peep

#3.
Seek shelter in an interior room w/o windows aka 1/2 bath

I was astonished to see Madi go into the 1/2 bath.  She is smarter than her Mom
 #4.
Tell the Mom to put down the flashy beast ASAP and get her
tush in the 1/2 bath with you

Note from Mom:  This is the exact sequence of pictures I took. At the first clap of thunder, I knew Madi would be coming so I confess I grabbed the flashy beast.  Grabbing Madi during a t-storm can cause harm to human flesh.  The windows literally shook during the storm.  But we needed it in the worst way.  I'm not a huge fan of t-storms..I think it rubbed off on Madi

Shortly after I posted these pictures we found out lightning struck a home in our neighborhood...we don't know exactly where but a lot of firetrucks and police came down our street.
We hope and pray everyone is safe.

  2. Thunderstorms can be pretty scary stuff for cats and humans. I would have grabbed the flashy beast too, never touching a cat during a thunderstorm is really good advice.

Glad to hear you and yours are alright, I hope no one was injured at the house that was hit.

  5. Oh, we're glad you're okay and are sending out purrayers for the people whose home was hit. We hope there was minimal damage.

We don't get bothered much by thunderstorms, but our mom sure does. There have been some doozies here, but not since our time with the mom. Yeah, thunder boomers and scary lightning, but not the really severe storms the mom remembers from her earlier years in this area.

  6. Gina thinks the same way Madi does, only her refuge is under the bed. I'm glad that you got some needed rain, but, it's too bad that it had to come in such a violent manner. I hope that whoever got their house hit is ok, and that there wasn't too much damage done.

  12. PS....us boys are macho kitties and aren't afraid of storms...or fireworks...or any loud noises.
Shelly is getting, but having been a feral kitty for a year or two, some sounds still scare her and she runs under mama's bed and hides.

  15. I hope the home wasn't too damaged and that nobody was hurt.

That would be an awful experience that I don't want.

  16. So here is an advantage of having a deaf cat, Casper never reacts to t-storms because he cannot hear them. As a result, the other three cats, who always look to him to set the tone, don't give a toss about t-storms either!!! Same goes for the vacuum cleaner :-)

  17. Oh my GOODNESS! I am so glad that you are OK and I will hope for the best for your neighbours. Madi, THANK YOU for the tips. We rarely get t-storms here so I wouldn't have known what to do if you hadn't taught me. :o)

WE think you were the smart one to head to an interior room! Best place to be and it's a good thing your Mom followed you , even if it was with the flashy beast.
