Thursday Theme Song is by The Hollies

Mom would like to say a
GREAT BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO
Hootin' Anni and thank her for sponsoring today's...

All of today's pictures were taken at
Richard Stanhope Pullen donated 66.33 acres of farmland to Raleigh for use as a park.  He called it an old cow pasture red and rocky. Pullen Park recently reopened after a two year
renovation.
The next picture is of the climate controlled
building
 which is home to our

Please click on the video below to here today's song
On a Carousel by The Hollies
 Then scroll down
to see all the pictures Mom took of the refurbished carousel
with all it's original animals.

Riding along on a carousel, trying to catch up to you
Riding along on a carousel, will I catch up to you?
Horses chasing 'cause they're racing. So they ain't so far
On a carousel, on a carousel
Nearer and nearer by changing horses, still so far away.
People fighting for their places just get in my way
Soon you'll leave and then I'll lose you
Still we're going around, on a carousel, round and round and up
down, up, down, up, down too.
As she leaves, she drops the presents that she won before.
Pulling ducks out of the water, got the highest score.
Now's my chance and I must take it, a case of do-or-die
On a carousel, on a carousel round and round and round and round
round  and round and round with you
Up, down, up, down, up, down, too

Note: the below picture is of kittehs with fishes in their mouths
Riding along on a carousel, trying to catch up to you
Riding along on a carousel, will I catch up to you?
Now we take our ride together
No more chasing her
On a carousel

The carousel features 50 hand carved and hand painted animals.
It was accepted into the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.  Some of the animals move, some are stationary.
There are 30 horses and 20 other animals including
ostriches, rabbits, cats, pigs, a tiger, a goat and a lion.
Many, many years ago the music for the carousel came from this beautiful
Wurlitzer. Today the music is automated.
Mom told me that at least four generations of her's and Dad's family have ridden on this
carousel.  She told me my human sister used to call it the round, round when she was a wee kitteh.
Thank you for visiting us today.
Hugs Madi and Mom

  2. That is the most beautiful, and colorful, carousel we have ever seen! We love all the different kinds of animals especially the cats with the fish. Mommy was reading the rules of the carousel and got the giggles at the last rule. I can't think of a better song for this post, plus we love the Hollies!

  16. We have a caroousel in our mall, but it is nothing compared to this one. It is so beautiful. It is great that such an iconic carousel could be restored and housed in a nice place for generations to come to enjoy.

I had not heard the song before, but I like it. It is the perfect song for your pictures and the story of the carousel.

    Nice Job!

  19. Love the carousel horses, the old ones had such detailed painting. We have seen some worn horses at auctions and wonder where they came from.

  20. Wow! That carousel is ah-mazing and oh-so-beautiful! But i don't understand why they have a rule abouts no pets when there's LOTS of animals already in there! Not very fair if you asks me.
