FLICKERS AND PLATES

COMMON FLICKER aka YELLOW SHAFTED

Next her 2 leggers and
MOI

Mom loves her fine feathered friends.  She has been trying to
snap a good picture of a Flicker
Finally on May 25th Mrs. Flicker stopped by our watering hole for
a little sip of fresh cool water.  As you can see she even
caught her with her beak open.

Here is a close up profile of this lovely lady wearing red necklace
and a lovely speckled coat.  We know this is a female because she does not have black whiskers/patches on the side of her mouth.  Both female and male have golden wing linings.

  2. What a pretty lady! I bet she'd be fun to play with. Do you think she'd run away like all the other birdies when I try to play with them?

  11. That is one gorgeous bird. I think we had some of those around here. I have never seen one with that much color though. The plates are terrific especially the last one. I need to get a place with 'Crazy cat Lady' or something to that effect. Have a great Sunday.

  12. Phwaaw that is one bonny bird I would like to get a bit closer to, as I suspect most of us Furs here, no? Sadly, despite my very best efforts, these and all other small furry creatures don't feel the same way about me, and I never, ever get near! x

  18. Hi Madi, Mom got several great shots of the Flicker! You can see all of
her pretty markings! I think she needs to send them in to one of the birding
    magazines they are so good!

  19. Flicker is beyond common and the silly humans should have a more refined name for such a beauty. Madi love your little biscuits on your Moms legs. Your BFFF Willow

  20. Yay!!! Thank you for emailing back! I have added you to my Google Reader and joined you via Google Connect, too.

Wow, what a gorgeous bird! We aren't birders that much, not like you all, knowing everything about what is a female and male, and plumage, etc. We just feed them so we can watch them and hear them. We have a feeder on our pear tree out back and one right beside of the house outside of my bedroom window. So no matter if we are on the back screened in porch or inside the house with the windows open, we can hear them chattering!

NCState? Ok we can like you. Living in Lexington Kentucky, with the University of Kentucky being just a few minutes from our house, we would have to automatically hate you if you rooted for Duke... its just how it is... I'm sure you understand. But the Wolfpack we like... I remember being a little girl watching Jim Valvano bringing the Wolfpack to the NCAA tourney. Good times!!

Cannot wait to see your posts!! And I'm glad we are friends!

  21. I miss flickers! The bird life in S. NV is pretty slim. When we lived in IL Scott fed the birds and we had all different kinds as well as water birds like kingfishers and herons; our house was next to the Fox river.
