Flight Friday

THE PEEPS VISITED THE WRIGHT BROTHERS
MEMORIAL IN KITTY HAWK, NC
THE ENTIRE WORLD OWES A GREAT BIG THANK YOU TO ORVILLE AND WILBUR's Dream TO FLY LIKE BIRDS
BEFORE THE WORLD KNEW THEM THEY OWNED
WRIGHT BICYCLE COMPANY IN DAYTON, OHIO IN 1892

THEY HAD LOFTIER GOALS.  THEIR MECHANICAL EXPERTISE AND
INTEREST IN AERONAUTICS.
THE REASON THE CHOSE KITTY HAWK WAS IT'S REMOTENESS WHERE THEY COULD WORK UNDISTURBED.  THE WIND AND SAND DUNES WERE EXACTLY WHAT THEY NEEDED.  HERE ARE SOME OF THE PHOTOS MOM TOOK FROM THE
MEMORIAL. On this remote beach in 1903 Orville broke our human bond with earth
1st flight was 12 seconds flew 120 feet
2nd flight was 12 seconds flew 175 feet
3rd flight was 15 seconds flew 200 feet
4th flight was 59 seconds flew 852 feet

The memorial below was built very close to the actual
location they use to launch the first gliders
to get to the memorial you have to walk up this long sidewalk
then circle around the mound to reach the memorial
Mom and Dad for sure got in their 10,000 steps a day on this day.

The history of flight was my final year project at high school (last century Madi, long before you were a twinkle!).. as much as I love ships, I may love aeroplanes more and, of course, the Wright brothers figured large on my pages! Such marvellous ambition of man, to join the birds; someone eventually had to break that barrier and they were the lucky pair! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
