Tuesday HEART Tale

If I asked you mom's favorite color, I would hear you all shout loud and proud
R E D!!!
That would be correct!!
If I had 87 prizes I'd give you all one!!
Red makes mom happy.
February is Heart month in honor of Women's Heart Health

On Saturday February 4th it was
GO RED FOR WOMEN WEAR RED DAY
This day promotes heart health for women.
Red is also one of the colors for mom's favorite University
N. C. State!! Each year there is a competition held at the NC State
Design School.  The students design a dress for the Heart Health Event.
After the dresses are designed each student makes the dress out of
some type of paper.  The completed dresses are on display at Crabtree Valley Mall.
The pictures below are a good example of how very pretty they are but
in person it is amazing.  Some of the dresses have folded paper similar to Origami
Almost all of the pieces of paper start out in the shape of
HEARTS

Mom used to make most of my human sis's clothes when sis was a wee girl...BUT mom did not design them she had to use patterns.  Needless to say Mom was amazed at each and every design and hope each young lady will one day be creating beautiful clothes OUT OF FABRIC.
We hope you enjoyed these photos and as always

  2. My grandmother sewed most of my clothes for me in elementary school ... she used patterns too. We'd get one pattern and 4 different fabrics ... and VOILA! Those dresses are AMAZING. I just realized I read your post about the Coffee Morning and didn't comment ... RATS! We enjoyed learning more about you and your Mom, Madi. I had no idea you're almost 15! For some reason, I thought you were much younger. I'm like your Mom in that I like to put myself into Bear's head ... as you can probably tell by the conversations we have on our blog :)

  3. Red is a brilliant colour. When you paint they tell you if you want your painting to pop to just put a touch of red in it.
    Love all the dress designs!

  4. They are pretty! I like the second one especially and wouldn't mind wearing the fabric version of that!
I like red myself or pink. Probably because I have to wear a dark blue uniform to work every day.

  7. Those were amazing dresses. Our mom can't sew at all, but she dreams that in another life, she could have been a costume designer and maker. Like for Ren Faires, that sort of thing.

  8. Madi, I am all about being for Go Red for Women! I have a little red dress enamel pin from Go Red for Women that is on my bag/purse. I also have a cardiac stent which is why I support Go Red for Women. A HUGE thank you to your Mom for giving some blog time to heart health! Love the pictures of the dresses! I think you would look very elegant in the last dress, Madi!

I love all these dresses, they are so creative, I would have given the blue ribbon to the one that got it and the one with the red ribbon is blue ribbon to. I love both those striped ones. you have reminded me that it is about time for our library to have the fashion show like this. will see when it is.

  14. Such a cool contest! My mother and older sister used to sew our clothes, and I learned to use patterns too, but haven't done any of that in a long, long while. Our sewing machine gets used to make cat pads from old towels or sheets, for the bottom of beddys, napping spots, and cat tents. I know how to knit too, but only flat, square things...hehehe!

  16. Even if we DID wear Dresses... we don't think we would want to wear any of these TODAY since it is POURING RAIN...outside... BUTT we know how your mom has MAD LOVE fur RED so we are sure that THESE are right up her alley.

  18. An impawtent message! Mom says too many women do not realize heart disease is the #1 killer! Dad's brother's wife (just turned 76 the week prior) died yesterday afternoon. She layed down on the bed to read and died. She must have had some sign something wasn't right and wasn't alert to it.

Wow, I agree with your Mom that red is a super color! My collar is red right now. Gee, those are some seriously fashionable paper dresses. Wonder why they didn't model them on paper dolls. BWAR HAR HAR ahem.
