Today for Caturday art we are featuring some beautimous and very cre8tive designs by
Textile and Design students from universities in our area.

Mom used to also be an avid seamstress she made all of my human sissy's clothes but she
doesn't sew much any more. Something about FELINES and tissue patterns and
strait pins not being wise all in the same room and kitties who think they are paperweights.

The yellow and blue frock was actually Mom's favorite she says it is very chic. All the different colors, textures, and fabrics. The dress on the left makes mom sneeze just looking at it. Lots of fevvers.
Next two are front and back of two dresses
This red and black one kinda left mom speechless. She loves the
cre8tive skirt with the twisted fabric
Both are 'conversation' pieces.
The blue fabric is called kaleidoscope which is pretty but the design is
very old fashion.
This one was made out of faux leather and clear plastic

The colors were quite a bold selection.
This one might be the 21st century version of the little black dress with a most colorful and fun skirt
The purple jumpsuit with technicolor sleeves and flared bell bottoms is quite attractive
alone. We don't know why in the world the gold wire was added.
It is just bizarre.. Original for sure not practical.
The little two piece ditty on the left was cute too but not sure it is practical.
Gosh some spectacular clothes there. But I don't think you'd get Gail within a mile of any of them!

ReplyDeleteLove the little black dress with the confetti-like skirt! I haven't worn a dress since 2006!!! If I have to wear a dress, I don't go... Ha! I bet that was a fun walk Madi's Mom!
ReplyDeleteWow - such stylish dresses! Gram made lots of dresses and tailored suits for both herself and mom and for dolls. She never followed the patterns exactly. She loved poofy sleeves and lots of lace and she was forever altering patterns. My sissy is the proud owner of Gram's sewing machine, now that she's in Heaven.
ReplyDeletethey are really creative, none of them would I ever wear. I shopped til I dropped yesterday for 2 hours and the day before. I can not find a blouse, all I want is a nave or black blouse, or a normal blouse. they all have sleevless with big giant ruffles on them, or tight sleeves to under elbow with big flowy sleeves. I like normal clothes, with fabric that matches. I do know that things like these are what the fashion world wants and they sell. I have not worn a dress since 2006 and don't intend to...

ReplyDeleteGreat work by the students! Ghostwriter used to sew a lot too, and made clothes for the siblings and for her dolls. She has a doll collector friend who is a great designer and sometimes sends her his latest creations for her dolls. Of course, I am not allowed to touch them.

I wish that I could sew better but repair and bandanas are about all that I can manage. If I knew how to set the tension on my sewing machine, I'd have better luck. LOL!

WOW.......well those students certainly have some "lively" imaginations don't they? My Mom says that last little number is like a time warp - bell bottoms and wire "framing" is PAST and FUTURE all rolled into one. Mom also told me that when she was younger (a lot younger) she used to sketch designs for clothes - she'd make up a "catalog" and give it to HER Mom and HER Mom would choose her favorites. Tons of fun and I just bet the students at college have a lot of fun MAKING their prototype designs too!
