Caturday Art ....Dona Nobis Pacem

in honor of ..
Scroll on down and you will see why this is flashback is appropriate

Welcome to  Caturday art hosted by Athena
See more Caturday Cat Art HERE.
FYI we have a resident Artist...many of you know him as
DAD of Madi!!

Raise your hand if you remember when wooden purses were IN?
Evidently Mom does (remember she is older than dirt). Are you ready here we go.....
When Mom was 19 (~1968 aka Stone age), she worked part time in a fancy clothing store. The wooden purses were very popular. She and my Dad had just started dating. Often she mentioned to him how much she admired the purses. Well Dad started to secretly investigate the wooden purses because he wanted my Mom to have one. After careful consideration, Dad concluded that he could make one for her. He worked on it for a very long time. Finally the time came to give it to my Mom. As I've mentioned, many times Mom is a squealer and I'm pretty sure she S Q U E A L E D long and loud when she saw this beautiful wooden purse made with love and care just for her. Dad bought the unfinished purses at a hobby/art shop. He hand drew each of the butterflies on the purse, painted them in their authentic colors,
painted the edges of the purse, note the itty bitty tiny orange line in between the yellow and brown. The brown semi-circles were made by tracing 1/2 of a penny
After all the painting was complete he put several coats of lacquer on the purse to perserve the drawings and the paint. Here it is 48 years later and the purse looks nearly perfect.Mom said she was so afraid she would dent it she only used it on Sunday. It has been stored with tender love and care over the years.

If you enlarge the pictures, you might see that each butterfly has tiny jewels on its wings that sparkle. The name of each butterfly is also either above or below the drawing.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday:U

Angel Sammy and brudder Teddy

Today's 4 word challenges are
ugly, under, uncle, until

Uncle's Story
by Madi(son) D. Cat

Under another roof in another time
A man called Uncle was the brother of Dad not mine.
I know this is true 'cause mom told me so.
Uncle was never ugly but always kind
He lived alone way up north in the land of
wind and snow.
A place I'm sure I'll never go.
Until one day he decided he needed to fill his house with furs, fun and things that go bump in the night.
He ran out into the wind and snow to a shelter where he saw a light.
Two furry sisters of the Feline species were the answer to his plight.
He said I want to give these two kitties a home.
No longer will we 3 ever be alone.
The End except for the picture
When they were 10 they moved from the land of wind and snow
to  NC.   Where they lived to be 17 (Gudrun) and 18 (Ursula) years old

Here is my skeery Halloween story hosted by

YaYa aka YAM Aunty

I, Madi, have agreed to let Angel Toto, the very first family pet be the narrator of this story since he was in charge of the house back in 1976

Boo friends, it is I, Toto, pictured above with my little human Sissy.
The little English bulldog pup figures into the story too...
This photo was taken on Sissy's 5th bday in August of 1976.  I was two and to quote mom, 'a force to be reckoned with too'.  I was described as a dachshund with a wolfhound attitude and fiercely loved my family

A little background for the story
Sissy was in kindergarten in 1976
she met a very nice friend, Kim, in her class who also happened to live about 2 blocks from us.  Sissy was quite petite as you can see (and she is still just 5'2")
her friend Kim, who was 5 1/2 y.o., was about 4'10" tall in kindergarten.
The mom's became friends too so by the time Halloween rolled around
they decided Sissy and Kim would go Trick or Treating together a few blocks in our neighborhood and a few in Kim's. The Mom's were with them and always waited
at the end of each walkway while the kiddos were collecting their goodies.

********************************
The title of this story is:
A tall tale by a short dog: Toto the mighty mini Dachshund

It was a warm and breezy Halloween night lots of goblins and ghouls were out and about. Sissy and Kim started their trick or treat trek around the first block of our neighborhood and were having a fine time and getting lots of sweet loot.  Off they skipped down to where Kim lived...
FYI Kim did not have a dog but she knew me well.
As they approached the last house in Kim's neighborhood, they heard a bit of barking coming from the house.  As mom recalls the barking was no where as fierce as my mighty mini dachshund bark so neither of the girls were paying much attention to it.  They were taking turns ringing the door bell and saying trick or treat.  It was Kim's turn to ring the door bell so she was in front of Sissy (remember Kim was way taller than sissy). After Kim rang the bell the barking became closer and louder, then all of a sudden the door opened and lo and behold there was a full grown English Bull Dog just like this one pictured below! His owner had a leash on him because he loved children and loved answering the door.
Well as soon as Kim saw him she broke the sound barrier with her
squeals and screams.  Sissy didn't know what she saw but
Sissy then broke  the sound barrier again.
Sissy and Kim took off running like greased lightning..with my short sissy in front beating tall Kim. The  bull dog got excited got loose from his owner.  He thought they wanted to play chase.  He starts running up the walk after them. Mom said his owner caught him quickly;  however, Kim and Sissy ran all the way to Kim's house about 4 houses away screaming the entire time.
The moms were trying to catch them but they were laughing too hard. Kim's dad heard the commotion and came running out to HELP.  Both girls nearly knocked him over trying to get in the house.  He sees the Moms at the end of the side walk about to faint from laughter and they were out of breath.  Of course Kim's dad thinks everyone has lost their mind.  Mom says she is pretty sure Sissy never ever knew what Kim was squealing about or even saw the dog.

I begged and pleaded with my mom to let me accompany them on the Trick or Treat Trek.  If I had been there, that English Bull dog would have tucked his tiny non existent tail and run to his mama for sure, cause as I said I was a fierce protector of my family.
The End!!!

Monday Mom Mews by Madi

Since early September mom has been whining suffering with a screaming sciatica...
Well lo and behold she got that under control but she still had a big OUCHIE along her  hip.
She crosses her ankle over her knee to put on her socks.  The right side was so sore she could cross the ankle but could not put press on it her hip to get her sock on.
Well GUESS what friends..... not only did she have sciatica she had iliotibial band aka
T-band syndrome: Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS) is one of the most common overuse injuries among runners, mom isn't a runner (unless she is being chased) but she is an avid walker.. It occurs when the iliotibial band, the ligament that runs down the outside of the thigh from the hip to the shin, is tight or inflamed. The IT band attaches to the knee and helps stabilize and move the joint.  Mom is pretty sure the nasty cussing sciatica contributed to this event.  All along mom thought the pain was all sciatica when that was better and she still had the pain when she applied pressure to her foot she asked her Doc
Doc, What is Up with this?

He told mom to but a 18" foam roller pictured below.  I sure do wish I had thumbs I'd take photos of mom on the floor rolling around on this thing.  No Dad will not take pictures...he said he knows who butters his bread and makes his toast so he is staying out of this..

Any way each time mom does this exercise her T-band feels less like a vise squeezing her hip.

No Tricks Just Treats for Shelters

Today Mom and I are pawticipating in the 3rd Annual.... No Tricks Just Treats For Shelters
Hosted by Mayor Arty, Jakey and Rosy SassyPants and their peeps.

However, we are putting a different spin on it.  As you all know, I had a really scary health issue
that started in June.  My wonderful vet at Hidden Valley Animal Clinic and their ER Clinic at Quail Ridge was there for us every step of  every day we needed them.
I will donate  $.50 cents all my treat money and my peeps will match my donation for each comment that is left on my blog between the hours

12 am today, Sunday, October 29-11:59 pm Sunday October 29.

After mom uses her fingers and toes to count all the comments, we will send a check to the
Wake County Animal Center (which is where Milky-Way the first family cat was adopted)
Their slogan is Be Cool....Adopt a Shelter Pet

Milky-Way
Our check will be in honor of the excellent Vets at
Hidden Valley Animal Clinic and Quail Ridge ER Clinic
both clinics work closely with the Animal Shelter

This is a what do you see test.....look closely at the circle

Via the zoom of Pizap here is a better shot

Every day 7 days a week about the same time we see these darling little
mini Dachshunds taking their peeps for a walk. One is a long hair red and the other a Pie-Bald.
Both are rescues from a Puppy mill (about 3 years ago).  Now they are rulers of their home and living and loving their life.  Once their owner told mom neither really knew how to walk outside on ground but after about 3 weeks they took to it like pros.

Be sure to head over the Da DB Boyz blog here they are having a comment a thon
to raise money for LBR and Marg's Animals  thru Sunday October 29, 2017
