Thoroughly Poetic Pictorial Thursday

Today we join Two  SPOILED CAT
Angel Sammy and Teddy for their poetic pictorial poem.

Here is today's photo prompt
We thank Mom Pam for all the effort she puts into finding
these lovely photos for us.

State Fair
this is a true story

Every October the State Fair comes to town
As a child, my excitement was hard to keep down
Ferris wheels, roller coasters and giant slides
Even a bearded lady was said to reside.
Food galore was everywhere
Hot dogs, cotton candy, and popcorn and so much more.
When you are five,
mixing, cotton candy and hot dogs is not advised
Within minutes my fun took a dive
Off to the first aid station they did drive
I broke out in the worst case of hives
but thankfully I am still alive.

***************
Note:
Since I had eaten many hot dogs in my five years, it was quickly determined
I was allergic to cotton candy or possible the dye in it.

Today's photo prompt
reminded me so much of a picture I have on our office wall.
It was taken in ~1988 by one of my favorite Chemistry graduate students from France.
It was his first trip to the N. C. State Fair. This was way way before digital cameras.
All the pictures he took were with slides easy to travel with and develop.
When he showed me the photos he took,
I loved the slide so much he turned it into a photo for me.

Breaking News!!
Today is going to be trying.  Gottcha Covered is coming at
1:30 to install sunscreen shades on the skylight over my Loo and in my Blog office.
I hope and purr I don't need to use the Loo.

Once the sun screen shade is in place there won't be any more
wild and crazy shadows lurking in my loo.

We are told the installer is quick as greased lightning.

Then to add insult to injury......I have my Senior Wellness Physical ...@3:30 pm
I will sing the song of my people all they way there (10 minutes) and back.
I suspect there will be a blood letting to check on my kidney values and I know
there will be at least one vaccine.  I will try to be brave.
Of course we'll share my visit with you all later.

  1. What a super busy day for a diva! I hope your sunscreen shade is purr-fect for your loo. We are sending love and prayers for V-E-T. What a shame that you couldn't enjoy the sticky sugary cotton candy but once but there are always funnel cakes! ☺

  4. Believe it or not...I have never been to a State Fair! It's WAY too much walking for me now...it seems I become a bit less mobile each year. I do love that photo on your wall! What wonderful memories!! We are talking about getting shades to cover our skylights too...too much heat gets in in the summer and too much cold gets in in the winter. Of course, this is one of those things we have been talking about for 20 years so I don't have a lot of faith it will happen anytime soon! :) Best of luck at the vet appt!

  6. Allergic to cotton candy? The horror! I will gladly throw away ice cream (which I love) to get some cotton candy instead.

Madi: good luck on the tests. We know you are going to be great!

  9. Our fair comes in October. One of the new dance class ladies is a clogger and does all the dance entertainment for the fair. She asked if our class wanted to dance at the fair. I said quickly "NO". We haven't been to the fair in 20 years.

To be honest I don't want to take either vehicle down to the area. And, I don't want to be at the whim to whatever time we would have to go. Plus too many boo boo's here lately on both of us.

Glad you are getting a sunscreen Madi.

  15. Oh Aunt Madi, you're so brave! I hope you make it through the loo renovations and vet visit okay.

Thank you so much for your advice yesterday. I try REALLY hard not to run up to Pigeon and lick her, but it's so hard to remember!

  16. Madi, who exactly is going to be bloodletting...the vet to you, or you to the vet?!? LOL! Be brave, and it'll all be over before you know it.

  17. Oh! My Cod! Your litter lumps is alive! I think mine are too, but they live in the dark...

  18. Best of luck with the wellness checks Madi. As always we love the poem. Gail says it reminds her of the annual fair, 'Goose Fair' held in her hometown of Nottingham, also in October. What magical childhood memories. And now Gail also is grateful she was never allergic to candy floss (although she does wonder now how she ever could think it a desirable foodstuff!)

  22. The State Fair sounds like fun! Ghostwriter and Dad have been to a few, but not in a very long time. Good luck on your visit to the V-E-T. I hate going anywhere in the car because I always think that's where it's headed.

  28. Oh, that was one FABulous poem from your MOms! Ma once rode a ride that when in circles and laughed so hard, she blew her cotton candy after she got off! BOL!
I am glads your MOms is takin' your loo gremlins seriously gurl! BRAVO! I am sure that'll fix the problem. I gots my paws crossed for you for your vettie visit! OMD, they are so intrusive!!! I means, do they really have to blood let??! geesh.
I gots to go in for the blood letting soon too...sigh. Lets me know if there are any tricks to getting back at the vettie techs...besides poopin' on them. They didn't seem to like that much. ☺
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥

  29. Loved the poem! All that good FOOD at the Fair can get you in trouble. And you never want to eat Beefaroni and then get on the Tilt-a-Whirl with your Dad, I know first hand about that!!! Lovely picture from your grad student. Hope all went well at your Wellness exam, I will be looking for updates.

  30. Madi what a GREAT poem today! Also, you're right - that picture that's framed looks so much like the one Angel Sammy gave us for poetic Thursday....carnivals used to be a lot fun my Mom says but it's good your Mom was able to figure out what NOT to eat at one. EEEK! Those sunscreen shades will be nice - AND keep out the heat too in your loo. Hope your exam goes well tomorrow.....

    Hugs, Teddy

  31. How awful for a child to be allergic to cotton candy! I have two fair stories:
    1. As an adult at the Ohio State Fair, I became faint in the "freak" tent and went outside and threw up.
    2. At 1 year old, Lexi saw "the biggest mule in the world" at a fair, and started shaking out of her skin!
