Monday Sparks to Serve or NOT?

Today I am pawticipating in

Sparks are all about spreading cheer and positive vibes via quotes.

On Friday September 14, I received..........

My juror number is 94.
This is the 4th summons I've received, first three times my number was needed so I'm
probably gonna get called.
Per instructions. on the summons I must call after 5:30 pm on October 21, 2018.
There will be a recorded message to inform me of any change in my reporting time of 8:30 am on October 22, 2018, OR IF I HAVE BEEN EXCUSED or if I .........

If I have not been excused and I am put on a trail lasting more than one day,
I will miss my monthly hair cut tomorrow 10/23/18.

There are 8 reasons you can get off jury duty...
1. Not US Citizen (please provide proof)
2. Not Wake Co. Resident(please provide proof)
3. Full time student (please provide proof)
4.72 years or older (can't do that as they have my year of birth at the top of the summons)
5. Mentally or physically disabled(please provide physician's statement)
6. Convicted felon...driving in downtown Raleigh in morning rush hour and looking for a parking space might cause me to become a felon
7. I have served as a juror within past 2 years or been on Grand Jury in the past 6 years.
My first ever jury summers was 30 years ago. I was selected for Grand jury which lasted a YEAR
YES  12 months.
8. I cannot understand English language
Then there is a 'compelling personal hardship' area.

It will be a compelling personal hardship to me if I miss my haircut
but hey I could just imitate Princess Leah's ear buns. Do you think if I show up like this
on October 23...they will send me home?

Hopefully I have been EXCUSED and we can all have a fun conversation about
Jury Duty...let's talk.

ADDENDUM ADDED SUNDAY EVENING FOR TODAY'S

  1. I've been called up 3 times. First two, my 'panel' wasn't needed. Third, I was going overseas. Don't think I'd be a good jurist, don't have the attention span anymore.

  2. we cross our paws for you..to wear that ear buns is sadly no solution, but you can try to pop up dressed like Boy George, at least that worked for the mama and they suspended her from school... ;O)))

  3. Wow, you really did jury duty for a whole year? I would have hoped that might make you exempt for the rest of time!
I've only been called for jury duty once, but as I could prove I had a vacation already booked for those days they let me off. That was over 15 years ago and I haven't yet been called back.
    Cheers, Gail.

  4. My human has been called for Jury Duty, and she has even been voir dire'd, but they never want her on a jury. Which is just as well, as that means she would have to work two jobs - jury duty and her regular work at home - because she works for herself and doesn't have a job that pays her to do jury duty and there is no one else to do her job. So she would have to just do both.

  5. Mom's blood pressure goes up when she receives a jury summons in the mail. Fingers and paws are crossed for you!

  6. Oh Cecilia! You were there for me last October for all my jury woe so I am here for you! I am feeling that you will get picked because you are a very good juror... they are going to want YOU! Your description of the whole jury SOP gives me memories of last year. I managed to dodge the jury seat by doing ridiculous facial expressions... worked for me!

  7. I got called once MOL, the Dad had to convince them I was a cat, but I should have showed up just to see what they did!

  8. Good luck to you. Sure hope you are excused. That is a lot of people to call in. That is a good idea to do the facial expressions. Hope it works.

  9. Our paws are crossed that you don't get assigned a case. Our mom said to make sure you bring some crochet to keep you busy while you wait to be called.

  12. Grampa Bill used to say to go to the jury selection day, and loudly state, "they're all guilty as hell!" Dad cannot serve because he's almost deaf, but doesn't use sign language. Both he and ghostwriter used to be able to be dismissed because they worked in medical professions, but I think that's no longer an excuse. Good luck to you!

  13. I've received the summons several times; all but one time, the case didn't go to trial. The last time, it did and I was chosen. It was a week long and was fascinating. It was an alleged rape case. Interestingly, the lawyers chose a 12 person jury plus one alternate of all men - except for me. And I was told at the end of the trial, before deliberations that I was the alternate.

  14. I have never had to report. A coworker, who was 5 months pregnant at the time got a summons to a murder trial but was dismissed as the judge said "we don't want any babies born in the jury box." Hope you are excused.

  15. I have never served on a trial before, but I have gotten to the last step before trial. Good luck!

  16. We think another reason for dismissal from jury duty should definitely be a hair appointment!!! Here's hoping they reject you - no one likes to be rejected but this is one time that it would be awesome!!!

  17. I had to postpone my jury duty once, because too many people in our small office were off for health reasons. When they rescheduled me, however, there was no way to get out of it with that same excuse! Been called for jury duty three times, made one jury when lasted all day Friday and a bit of Monday. It was a robbery case, and the case wasn't proved by a long shot; we'd decided within 15 minutes to say 'not guilty'. However, when it was read aloud in the court, the young man who was accused reacted in such a way that made it look like he WAS guilty! Oh well...

  18. I'm not a fan either. It's hurry up and wait and wait and wait. Oh well, we go when we have to and are glad when they pass us over. I've got my fingers crossed for you.

Have a fabulous day and week. ♥

  21. Bless your heart. I have been summoned twice but never had to actually show up. We are new to Texas and I'm hoping my luck holds out. My brother gets called in NYC all the time! Haha!

  22. We did not read this until 8pm West Coast time. I hoe that they have excused you!

  23. Oh, Ma has gotten those many many many times! She's only had to show up twice, and only had to be questioned once ~ she got out of it cause her cousin was convicted of manslaughter and various other crimes (yeah, THAT side of the family...☺). There is nothing quite as interesting than telling a whole courtroom that your cousin is a convicted killer ~ for some reason, they all turn and look at you! Ma's like...'I' didn't do it! geesh! BOL!!! Anyhu, I sure hopes you don't miss your hair appointment!!! If you do, you REALLY don't wants Ma to cut it...she never seems to gets MY furs right! BOL!!!
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥
