Tidying Up Tuesday

We don't subscribe to Netflix but I've been told by
reliable dogs (Murphy and Stanley) that there is an incredible program all about
getting organized.  They know this because their Mom's body and mind has
been taken over by the program.  She is organizing everything. They told me
if you have something you want to keep you must sit on it and refused to move.
In 2006. we had our 23 year old kitchen gutted and remodel.  At that time
I purged and merged.  I decided it was time for a do over.
I was amazed at how many duplicates I had of certain kitchen necessities.
I am not giving you a before and after.....WHY
My silver wear drawer is always organized and clean so I'm not showing that.

B E C A U S E they were a disaster....here is the
AFTER
There are 3 drawers to the left of the stove:

1. Trivets, hot pads, manual can opener in case the power is out and I'm hungry,
The rolled up green is slip proof drawer liners.
red disk is one of the many little handy dandy grippers to get tops off jars
clean cuisine gloves BECAUSE I DO NOT PUT MY BARE hands on any raw meat...PERIOD

Our cabinets did not come with drawer inserts.  I bought all of them at
The Container Store.

Next two drawers miscellaneous things, bottom tray left to right
ice pick, knives, coffee scoop, honey wand, ice cream scoop,
zester, pizza slicer, cheese grater, meat tenderizer (under grater) or implement of torture
glass measuring spoons, plastic clips and the lavender things are sentimental.
Dog biscuit forms that I won early in my blogging from Olive a darling Boxer Mix.
Top tray: left to right sentimental compartment too: my daughter and husband's baby spoons and
the spoon I used for 30 years for cat food, various measuring spoons.  I discarded 2 partial sets of spoons and I had 2 corers and peelers.
I kept the ergonomically correct corer, peeler.  Two cheese knives,
same drawer as above with smaller tray in place

Miscellaneous: measuring cups, whisker, hand chopper, tongs,
brush is for cleaning out baster, baster is has the red bulb on it
bottle stoppers, wine bottle opener. The white handed is for my very very
ancient Corning ware bowls that w rec'd for wedding presents 50 years ago.
Meat thermometer, two basting brushes and two plastic spatulas

Next is one of the drawers in my island.
Drawer on the left has is my silverware
Drawer on the right is another 2 tray insert
It was in the absolute WORST condition.
Office supplies.   I took out the trays washed them all and then reorganized

This is what is under the small tray in above photo.
FYI:  If you need push pins or paper clips give me a HOLLER
I'm your gal!!

I have a bag full of duplicate tools that will be taking to North Raleigh Mission.

I also greatly improved my candle drawer.  For the last 33+ years they have been stored in this drawer...
BUT wrapped up in tissue paper so they would not be damaged.
However, finding one particular color/candle was impossible. NOT ANY MORE
No before photos
but let me just say all the tissue paper nearly filled up our indoor recycling bin.
trays were purchased at WalMart.

Once I catch my breath I'll be merging and purging the pantry.

  1. I try to get organized but I always fail... that is uncommon for a virgo and I think I have to ask my parents if they are sure that I was born that day in september... probably not, because my parents are absolutely unorganized too ;O)

  2. Holy cow! Do you rent yourself out? I think I'd wear you out with just ONE of our drawers - oh wait - how about the desk in my kitchen? Oh yeah....that's a disaster area!!!!

I am one who is naturally organised. Early years spent in a caravan meant learning a place for everything and everything in its place - and if it didn't have a place it probably wasn't required! I have never lost that skill. However, menopolyinaemia has ensured that there is occasionally a breakdown in placement... then all **** breaks loose when things are not where they oughtta be!!! I have never seen drawers this organized, anywhere or everywhere. the thing is my kitchen only has 4 drawers in it and I have hardly any of what you have here. good job

  10. Your drawers look great. Our pawrents did a big merge and purge when we redid the kitchen. No sense in putting back things you don't need.

  11. Wowza, it looks grreat! Momma is one of those annoying people who organizes stuff in her sleep practically. She even has my holiday photo props organized and labeled so she can find them quickly. BAH!

  12. I can only dream about purging the kitchen. It's The Hubby's domain, and I'm the second fiddle. But I'm determined to get an instant boiling water tap!

  14. I so need to do this. Hubby is the cook, but we've talked about straightening things up. I'll see if he'll let us do this together.

Have a fabulous day, Cecilia. Big hugs. ♥

  15. I have to report that Gail is looking totally intimidated by all that organisation and tidiness. Really, you don't want to delve too closely into our kitchen...

  20. Mom has gotten a lot better about organization after she had to clean out her Mom's house of years and years of collecting:) She does try to do a purge once a year, but it is hard to part with some things. As for The Container Store, she says she could spend a lot of time and money there:)

  24. Your drawers look great, and I'm not talking about your underwear, LOL. I'm also an organizer, and me and hubby tend to do that for fun. I do keep 1 kitchen junk drawer just for fun. 😆

  25. I am impressed. I wish I had Netflix so I could get motivated with the show. I read the book, but need more pressure. XO

  26. There are some places around our house that are just too far gone to even contemplate organizing ;)

  27. Oooooh, nice job! I love organizing things! I actually just watched the first episode of the show you're talking about and she does a nice job. I don't agree with some of the things she does, but the results are good!

  29. Those are the neatest and best organized drawers I have ever seen. Good job! I like the idea of all the containers I may have to give that a go. Hugs

  30. Ugh! We purged 25 years of stuff when we moved last year. I already have a kitchen junk drawer that needs organizing but I am doing pretty good at keeping things in there proper place.
