Saturday Art

This row of canvas art advertising the N. C. Museum of Art
has adorned the side of Belk Department Store at Crabtree Valley Mall for
as long as I can remember. There are 5 pieces
4 shown here.

I cropped and framed two of my favorite

The Thinker(s)
I got a chuckle when I saw/heard the Canada Geese
honking above The Thinker.  Every bird is an art critic
Auguste Rodin, The Thinker, modeled 1880 and reduced 1903
Gift to the N. C. Museum of Art by Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation

This beautiful canvas was not visible in the first photo

  1. That is nice art on the building. The last time I saw the Rialto Bridge it was pouring with rain and St.Mark's Square was flooded, (which happens often.)

  2. Nice artwork on the building! The Rialto Bridge sure didn't look like that when we saw it - but I'd love to see it again one day......Venice is my favorite city in the world.

...the original Thinker is right there in your city? Kudos! For some reason I thought it was in the Louvre. Apparently, though, there exist "numerous casts worldwide". I just learned my first new thing today! YAM xx

  5. Nice to see a little art on this Saturday! I guess the Thinker's lucky the geese didn't decide to get up close and personal! - Tom x

  7. Hey, mom and dad have been to both the museum and that mall. Of course they're a few hours further away now. It's funny- the thing they miss the most about leaving Chapel Hill is the library. That place is amazing, and the one near us now pales in comparison.

  8. Wow...we don't have this kinda GOOD STUFF in our neck of the woods! Lucky you.

Ps...we don't have any art critics either.

  12. Wow! Great artwork! I'm sure those geese didn't appreciate it. We have lots of geese on the ground around the big shopping malls lately, all trying to claim the best nest sites around the catch ponds.

  13. What a great way to advertise for the museum. I like that second painting with the bridge and church. It takes me back in time where I like to imagine what life was like there.

  14. I love The Thinker - And I think that the birds should love it too! No honking at it! OK?!?!? Thanks for sharing, and Happy Saturday!

  15. The Detroit Institute of Arts has a copy of Rodin's "The Thinker" in front of the building, and it's always been a favorite piece for me. The Cleveland Museum of Art also has a copy of the statue, but it was bombed by unknown terrorists in 1970, and remains in it's damaged state. I saw it in person last year, when visiting the museum for the very first time.

  18. That is funny with the geese over The Thinker :) XO

  19. Yeah... Birds... I can see how they'd choose to be critics if they had to work in the human world.

  20. Those geese must have gotten tired when flying and stopped to rest on that building.
