Wordless Wednesday and PSA

The mountains of N.C. and surrounding cities need no words.
Below a few photos from our road trip in early September.

If this barn could talk......

I love this white fence ....but I LOVE it more that I don't have to paint it.

PSA

Friends...if you have not bought a water heater in the last 10 years...
let me offer you a word of advice EXPENSIVE.

Last week we had some annual inspections of household equipment: furnace
and *Wally the water heater.
*(FYI: We routinely have it inspected.  WHY: On Christmas Day 2008, after
Favorite Sissy and BIL of 👼 Madi took their showers which were lukewarm,
Dad of said Angel had a very cold shower.)

In January of this year, we had 10 y.o., Wally inspected.
At that time, we told he was probably up for replacement within the year.  There are tale tale
signs, such as they tend to grow 'age' spots aka rust.
Low and Behold Wally was close to providing his last bit of hot water.
December 2008: water heater and electrical code upgrades were $1,700 total.
Upgrades were approximately $700.00.
September 2019 just the water heater (no upgrades needed) was $1,935.00!
I think we might name this new water heated Goldie..for gold digger.

  1. water heater stories turn often into a water-gate scandal... we hear ya... maybe the owner of that white fence was mark twain and it inspired him to the fence episode in tom sawyer?

  3. Nothing is cheap anymore....especially in the "house maintenance" department! We had to get a new heat pump this year - we'll be lucky to pay it off before we're buried! LOL

  4. Beautiful green photos!
Just be grateful that at least your energy costs (electricity, gas etc.) are very much cheaper than in the UK...
    Cheers,

  5. Mom never liked painting the picket fence when she had one. This one would be a monster job but the property is just gorgeous!

  6. My goodness. I'm glad the hubby was able to replace the 2 that have croaked since we built the house. Although to tell ya the truth, there was almost a divorce getting the second one installed when we had to remove the old one and get the newer (NOT THE SAME SIZE AS OLD ONE) into place in the attic crawl space.

there were more HBO words flying than you could catch with a net...........

  7. I am still blown away by the cost of Goldie... wish Wally would have hung in there a little longer. Our water heater here was replaced in 2012 by the previous owners of the Casa... guess we better keep an eye on it. That is a lovely property with the white fence. All those trees... gorgeous!

  8. Good thing the scenery is so pretty because bills like that for a water heart sure are not!

  9. And you will pay the price because hot water is a necessity. Things are just so expensive.

  12. Water, for most of our married life, have been our nemesis. From hot water heaters being replaced to water pipes under our STOVE with cement foundation having to be torn out. One good thing about THAT mess was...no dishes, no cooking for three days.

A couple years ago, new hot water heater here to the tune of $2000

  13. Holy Carp....that's a lot of money for a hot water heater!!!

  14. That's one of those things you dont think about ... until it doesn't work. Nothing worse than a cold shower! Yipes!

  15. Wow, that's a heap of money and Goldie is a great name.

Love the old barn and the house, but you're right about not wanted to paint all that fence. Wow.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

  17. Oh my!! Mom has been wondering about ours as it is older than Wally. Had a mishap in 2006 where the bottom went out of the water heater and the water seeped under the wall into the study, soaking the carpet! That is a mighty expensive replacement - yikes

  18. Those are lovely pictures of the countryside. Wow that sure is an expensive water heater.

  19. You've reminded me I need to go lift those little switches so water can flow out....don't know the reason, but it should be done occasionally. I Don't want to be hit with 'you need a new water service'. Here, I have two ceiling fans that need replacing.....

  20. Those are beautiful pictures. Losing a water heater is a disaster. We have a tankless heater. It is good, but it needs to be professionally cleaned every couple of years and almost no one works on them because they are complicated.

  21. Goldie!!! LOL! I love it. Yep, she be a gold-digger alright. Prices keep going -up-up-up! ugh.

  22. That is a nice fence. Ouch on that price of the water heater! XO

  23. Wow, that sure is a lot of money! For a water heater!! Not even a fancy HVAC unit.

  24. Such pretty countryside. Thanks for sharing those photos. And that is a lot of money for hot water! Goldie is an appropriate name.

  25. That is a beautiful white fence!!!
(OMD...Goldie is a very appropriate name for your new water heater!!)

  26. I love that fence but I'd sure hate to paint it too. That is an incredible price hike on water heaters. We thought we might have to replace ours before we sold our old house but thankfully, it passed inspection. Now that I know how much they cost, I'm even more thankful. Hah!
