Smokey the Bear on Saturday

More NC State Fair Photos
We arrived about 8:30 am on 10/25.  No crowds and we
were able to see some things we had not seen in the past.
The NC Department of Forestry had a wonderful
display...

We were greeted by none other than Smokey the Bear

I have never seen all the fire fighting equipment used to fight
forest fires.

This is the water 'bucket' that is used for aerial drops

This 1952 former Military  vehicle is part of the Forest Service.

Right next door was a working sawmill

This steam engine was huffin' and puffin' away

Who would touch a Sawmill?
Usually signs are UP because some did something stupid.

Well, there's always SOMEONE in a crowd with no head-in-gear... What a fun place to look around though! YAM xx

  2. Oh boy - what a treat to see all that equipment up close. My Dad goes to a steam engine show every year and they have a sawmill set up - it's so cool to watch it working!

  5. Lovely header! It looks from peep's clothing that it might have been a little cool. Looks like a lot of fun and interesting for sure. Jerry will be tickled to see that little yellow Huey! Smokey looking large and in charge!

  6. Those are interesting displays and Ivor would have been very interested.
The warnings signs remind me of when we were in Hawaii. We were visiting one of the volcanos on a private tour with a local guide. There was a vent where hot steam was escaping from deep below ground. The guide said under no circumstances put your hands near the vent. Of course one know it all put his hand right through the guards to see if it really was as hot as he had been warned and scalded all the skin right off his hand!

  10. We have a lot of wildfires in California. It is interesting to see the ingenious ways to fight them. We didn't realize that smoky was a giant.

  14. Michigan has a Hartwick Pines State Park, where there are trees that were never logged, and they have recreations of logging/frontier life. It's absolutely stunning, and I hope to visit there again next year. Being around living trees is good for humans!
