The elephant ear plant (Colocasia) provides a bold tropical effect in nearly any landscape setting. In fact, these plants are commonly grown for their large, tropical-looking foliage, which is reminiscent of elephant ears.
This road, Town and Country Road, is curvy, 2 lane speed limit 35. However, the average speed was
45 or more. The powers that be in our city have decided to best way to control speed is to
install 'calming medians' smack in the middle of 2 lane roads in residential areas.
We travel this road every day sometimes multiple times.
There are 3 calming medians on this road.
All have seasonal plantings. The Elephant Ears have thrived as have the Canna Lilies
we love that elephant pplant... and we will remember that spark... specially the part about da peanuts ;O)

i love elephant ears, and we had 3 lovely plants for years, along came Baby and Boom they were gone. i have a small one now but it is not doing as good as they did years ago. climate change. these are beautiful in the median, but i assume the cold will kill them back soon.. I also love REAL elephant ears and trunks and big old bodies.

ReplyDeleteWe like the elephant advice but we've never heard of calming medians. Do you actually think they work? We thought you were going to say they put speed bumps in to slow people down.

Those were very wise words from the elephant. We have never heard of calming medians, it is a great idea. We need to get our city to do that too.

ReplyDeleteMa loooooves Elephants! One of our local zoo's had an Elephant with the same name as Ma when she was a wee lass, and she always felt a kinship to them...plus, they're really smart!

I've never heard of a calming median before. Is it working? And we eschew elephant ear plants, as they are poisonous to dogs.
