Houseplant Appreciation Day

Ranger thank you for starting the wacky tradition again
I'll be pawticipating in the wackiness often.

House Plant Appreciation Day, January 10th
Below is a photo from August 23, 2019, featuring my
two houseplants: Sidney Snake and Julia Jade
(The moisture on the outside of the windows is from
the very HUMID August air).

Below is a photo of Sidney and Julia taken on January 1, 2021.
Surprisingly they are thriving.  I tend to over water.  Both love less water than more. In order to avoid over loving, my calendar is marked for monthly watering on the same day.

While I'm making confessions, I must also tell/warn all that as of  December 31, 2020
Classic Pizap is no longer available.  I'm slowly learning the ins and outs of the 'new and improved' Pizap.
I tell you this because in the above photo I selected 'flip' instead of 'rotate'.
Which is fine for the plants; however, our ivy patch in the back yard appears on the on the right
Below is the original photo...before it flipped
BTW this flip it function will come in handy on Backward Day January 31...just sayin'

  1. Sidney and Julia are both looking beautiful and well-cared for. I have a tendency to forget to water so other than my Christmas cactus, fake plants work best for me☺

  2. Sidney and Julia are doing well. I hate high humidity! We have it all year round but don't notice it in winter. I always associated it with hot steamy conditions until I got a small weather station and was amazed at the results. Currently it is 10.30 am, the temperature is 28F and the humidity is 100%. However does that work???

  5. Gosh I wish you could have seen my Charlit boys jade! He bought it to keep him company when he started the University . He called his dorm room a refrigerator box it was so small and narrow and c-o-l-d. Anyhoo the little jade thrived. He had a rubber bat too that he called Rodney but he failed to name the jade. So...he had that jade for 18 years and it had been moved and moved to a larger pot until it was in one that needed a household "truck"to take it outside. It must have finally decided to join its ancestors as it slowly died off in pieces and sections despite all the hospitalization it got from my boy. It went from a tiny plant in a 4" pot to a ginormous overpowering huge presence. I think it was a male. :-) I still miss that jade. I enjoyed meeting Sidney and Julia though. I'll have to take another pic of Samantha and show it soon.

  7. How wonderful for those plants to be adopted and to live inside!

  8. Sidney and Julia sure have grown since your first picture. That's a good idea to mark the calendar for watering them.

  9. Love Sidney Snake and Julia Jade! I'd like to have houseplants but my record for good care is not good. Sidney and Julia look happy and healthy. I recognize those sweaty windows. It's cold here... brrrrrrr.

  10. Sidney Snake and Julia Jade are doing well! Mom has managed to kill most of our plants! Not that our trying to munch on some of them might have helped them meet an early demise. Thanks for the Wacky Holiday spread! It made Mom laugh!
Have a most wonderfully Happy Day!

  11. We don't have a good record on growing houseplants in our house. I do have one orchid plant that I got a couple years ago. It sits in my office window and I water it about every other week. It's still alive and growing but hasn't had flowers in ages.

  12. Both Sidney and Julia are looking great. Mom is an overwaterer too. She is working hard to keep her little succulents going, but the pot that once was full is slowly growing less and less populated. We used to use Pizap but it got very frustrating with all the changes. But that flip effect is interesting.

  15. Oh, Ma can over water too ~ she tends to use the weight of the pot to judge whether her plants need watering, butts that doesn't always work...BOL!!! the hydrometer is more accurate, butts Ma forgets where she put it 😂
Your plants are just FABulous! Butts Ma can't gets over that humidity! Holy Mildew Spores! Ma would literally die! Ma bows to your tolerance....😊

  17. I was so focused on the plants that I would not have noticed the flip, LOL! I forgot my jade out on the screened porch and it froze to death. Poor thing.

  18. I am so impressed. I used to be great at keeping houseplants but I have developed a "black" thumb in recent years. I have killed a Christmas cactus and a beautiful new aloe vera this winter. LOL!

  19. Yes that old PiZap was nice but you needed Flash Player to run it which is the reason it is not the Old PiZap. The new one is pretty easy once you use it. I use if for fast things when I am not at my desktop that has PaintShop
