I received the below email and photos from my Nephew Rocky, last Friday morning
January 29.....
I gave Mom (and myself) quite a scare last night.
Mom was in the kitchen and heard me MEOWING!
She ran to the the bathroom and this is what she found! 🙀
Nice view from up here!
Didn’t seem as high when I was jumping up here.
Help???
Mom climbed up on the tub and helped me down.
She said she hopes I learned a lesson. Yep, whenever in trouble MEOW for Mom!!! 😹

Oh my word Rocky...you are indeed taking your nick name Rocketman to heart which caused Mom's heart to skip several beats I am sure. Dearest nephew was your launch pad from the tub or the vanity? Either way it was 1,000% jet propelled. I fear that the lesson you have learned is you can fly....but I suspect Mom is gonna be clipping your flight wings by keeping that bathroom door closed.
Now that I have said what a smart Auntie should say....I feel I must mention how good the view would be from there in the day time.

We were just looking at number of robins in our yard and Al saw this bird.. It had some black in his wings feathers and his chest had yellowish circles like dots. Al looked with binoculars at it thinking it was a white pigeon but then saw it looked more like the robins. Amazing!!!
Janice it’s an leucistic* Robin, A true albino would have pink eyes..
Janice and Al I checked google. You are 100% correct. There are several photos of robins with varying degrees of white, brown and black.
*Leucism (/ˈluːsɪzəm, -kɪz-/) is a wide variety of conditions which result in the partial loss of pigmentation in an animal—which causes white, pale, or patchy coloration of the skin, hair, feathers, scales or cuticles, but not the eyes.
we agree.... up is always easy... but great that your mama was there and you had not to call da firefighters to da rescue...

ReplyDeleteWe havw never before heard of an albino robin. Our robins in the UK are much smaller and rounder than the variety on your side on the Pond - in fact we think they might be a different species and are just off to consult Mr Google to check.

ReplyDeleteA small technical point of correction... LEUCISTIC is what this robin is. An albino would have pink eyes. Leucism is varying degrees of melanin loss but does not affect the eyes, which remain as per the natural colour. Only if the eye is pink can it be termed albino. Birds very very rarely have the latter but often can have the former.
An exciting spot and well done for photographing it...
And as for Rocky... All I could think of was my angel Jasper and his adventure up the jacaranda which involved a ladder, his sisfur dog and this hyooman risking life and limb to help him down! YAM xx

Cats like to get up to really high places and then suddenly they can't get down. I'm sure they got you down safely since you called for help.

wow you had two interesting emails in one week. never heard of the white robin or any other bird but now i am thinking there might be albino everythings from birds to beasts.

ReplyDeleteThat sure is quite a feat Rocky pulled off. Sometimes we wish we were kitties and could jump onto high things like they do. Yam beat us to the punch with the difference between a leucistic and albino animal but finding a leucistic robin is a cool rare find.

We always LOVE coming to visit! We never know what is going to happen! Hee! Hee! I hope that Marv does not see Rocket! It will give him even more outlandish ideas! I have never heard of leucism, which is surprising as I have vitiligo. And about wearing red, I have a Christmas shirt, my pyjama shirt is red, and a red party dress. I had carrot red hair growing up and my Mom always told me red heads don't wear red...So I hardly ever look at red clothing. Thanks for stopping by and visiting us and have a marvellously Happy Day!

That's a cool thing to learn about degrees of being albino. I'll never remember that word, though! Rocky would have me trembling...I hate heights. And, I have that exact same picture over my bed. I bought it because I used to have a guest room with a bed and spread that exactly like that, and my Sammy dog looked a little like that one and used to lie on that bed curled up.

Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important.
