Turkey Vulture is not a very pretty name for what I discovered to be a very pretty and colorful bird. Red face, yellow beak and red legs. We spotted a pair while right at the Crabtree Creek Trail on March 23.

The turkey vulture received its common name from the resemblance of the adult's bald red head and its dark plumage to that of the male wild turkey, while the name "vulture" is derived from the Latin word vulturus, meaning "tearer", and is a reference to its feeding habits.[9]

Pup, who’s terrified by thunder, stayed in his copilot position until we decided to wait out the storms in Mississippi Welcome Center.
I hope you can see this video it is adorable Kat is giving Rocky a very soothing bath.
Mom rode in the bedroom with Rocky and me. The little fellow hates thunder too, so I tried my best to calm and comfort him.
Being a big brother is a huge responsibility, but I’m up to the task. 😻

ReplyDeleteWe have them there vultures around this place now and then. Dad says there was a gang of them ripping and tearing at a possum in the road right at the end of our driveway the other day.

ReplyDeleteNever heard of turkey vultures. We have a lot of wild turkeys just hanging around, but they are harmless.
ReplyDeleteI never looked forward to traveling anywhere in Spring because of the weather. We have some scary weather stories from traveling in storms. Our Z Cat was so afraid of thunder and storms. I am happy Kat and Rocky have a great relationship. Good Morning!

ReplyDeleteSongs are not did to ride through or to be in an RV so glad they found a place to go inside for a little while. Cat you are indeed a great big brother. Poor pup having lived with three dogs that were terrified of Thunder we know the feeling. Bo doesn't pay much attention to it he does let us know that it's there and he wants to lay close to us but he doesn't get upset like the others did. Agree with yam the weather just can't make up its mind and wide. Vultures are one of the birds that I do like because they clean up the mess the world makes

We have lots of those turkey vultures around here these days, and we're glad to see them. Years ago you'd be lucky to see even one glimpse of one!

I really like turkey vultures. Sometimes they follow me from the sky while I ride my bike, which always makes me nervous, as if they're expecting me to expire during the ride!

We don't see the vultures in our yard but out on the streets and highway frequently they are working on some creature that didn't make it across the road in time. I'm glad that the adventurers stopped in the Welcome Center to wait out the storm - that looked like a DOOZY - adorable video...!
