A conversation recently heard in our car: by Me and HOM(husband of mine)
Me: WHOA to HOM
HOM: WHAT to Me
ME: HOM Not what WHO
When we drove by this home, I saw what I thought was a real Owl. Many folks around here have life like Owls to discourage squirrels and other critters from setting up a home in their yard.
The Owl was deep in concentration staring into the flower bed in front of the steps. His feathers were ruffled. His eyes seemed to be asking, "WHO invited you to this buffet"? He spread his wings to leave at the same time several cardinals in the flower bed flew off too. I guess I disturbed his lunch.
OWLS ON THE HUNT. Many owl species are nocturnal, meaning they are active at night. There are some owl species who are diurnal, however, meaning they are active during the day but rest at night. ... Owls spend much of their waking time hunting for food.
it was a real one? oooh we would love to have such a guy in our garden... the mama is an owl-fan ;O)

ReplyDeleteBrava Miss C - that was an extra special sighting and you did so well to photograph it... (people here use those fake owls to ward of the seagulls...) YAM xx
Those are good photos of the owl. It is rare to see them by day here, but I know a few species are diurnal.
ReplyDeleteOwls are pretty cool - we have them in our woods and Mom and Dad hear them WHOOOOO'ing at night! My Dad says at the airport the planes that are parked outside and not in hangars often have "pretend owls" strapped to the propellers to keep birds from building nests in the plane engines.

Good catch seeing the Owl. I haven't seen one in a while here.
ReplyDeleteYou are truly good at spotting interesting things! We had an owl at the Tiny Ten that hung around SSNS garden. It was gorgeous. You clicked a great picture. I am glad you disturbed his lunch. I know everything has to eat but I would rather it not eat cardinals. We had a fake owl hanging from our dock when we lived at the Lake of the Ozarks and the birds just sat on it and pooped on the boat!
ReplyDeleteWow, a real owl? That was well worth stopping for, and well done to get the photo!
ReplyDeleteWow! He is gorgeous and so is that home!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun and how nice you noticed him sitting there!
ReplyDeleteOwls are such beautiful birds and what a wonderful find. Then it being a real owl was even better. People put owls on their boats too. They have ones that their heads turn. It seems to work.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Big hug, honey. ♥
Pretty cool but we're glad the cardinals got away.

What a great sighting! It's so rare to see an owl out in day light. That was quite a treat for you and we thank you for sharing it with all of us too.
ReplyDeleteWHOA! indeed! there is a fake one across the street from us and I thought this one was to. odd to see it sitting on that post in broad daylight. what a capture.
ReplyDeleteWow! That's amazing! We have lots of hawks around here, the most common one is Mr. Cool Beans Cooper, our friendly neighborhood Cooper's hawk. I'm sure we have owls too, but we've never seen one.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting and beautiful pictures!! I have never seen a real owl(many people have fake ones around here too!)
ReplyDeleteWe hear the owls in the trees along the trail during the day all the time, but we have yet to spot one.

Great photos. We have a fake one, but it doesn't scare anything away. XO
ReplyDeleteThat is a super realistic owl!! I did not know that they were diurnal owls. That is cool. I recently saw a trail cam video of a great horned owl hunting fish in a pond! That was a surprise
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific set of photos! They are marvellous! We have seen a couple of owls around here in the evening and heard them at night, but not during the day! You are one lucky lady! We hope you had a marvellously happy day!
ReplyDeleteOH, my gosh, I have rarely heard one...and where I live is heavily wooded. I know they're here. Just never saw on or heard one. Busting to see one.
ReplyDeleteThat is an excellent shot. So lucky to see the owl.
ReplyDeleteWow. I have never seen an owl so close to a house.
ReplyDeleteNice BOP (Bird of Prey). He missed his chance with those cardinals, which I would have that would be too big for him. Maybe they were.
ReplyDeletewow that was a real owl? Holy smokes- we just hear them!
