At first, I thought the heron was alone...

Facts: Herons
The Great Blue Heron is the largest and most widespread heron in North America. It is a large bird, with a slate-gray body, chestnut and black accents, and very long legs and an "S"-shaped neck. Great Blue Herons are very tall and stand 38-54 inches (97-137 cm). In flight, the bird looks enormous, with a six-foot wingspan. Beak ~ 7"
Facts Monkeys:
In many ways the body of a Monkey is very similar to that of humans. All Monkeys have fingerprints and just like humans they are unique. They have long legs and arms that are flexible so that they can climb with them.

a triple heron ;O) we hope we can at least get one photo of one heron... maybe I place mark for a day next to the lake and pick him up in the evening? covered in leaves and in a bush?

ReplyDeleteI have a butterfly tattoo...but over the years I now wish I'd had a G B heron done as a tattoo. Too late now.
ReplyDeleteWe have tons of herons here, right between the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. Funny story ... the nursing home my Mom lived at has a koi pond. They couldn't figure out why the koi were disappearing until one day a nurse caught a heron using the koi pond as his own personal smorgasbord.

I did not know toucans eat meat and did not know Monkeys have finger prints. Learn something new several times a day

One afternoon late in the fall some years ago I was walking around the back field and a pair of herons flew over, quite low. They looked a bit like pterosaurs, close up, with those beaks and long legs. And if you have ever heard them call they sound prehistoric too. They are wonderful birds !
ReplyDeleteYour heron picture is amazing! We get herons around here in WNY, but only in summer. They do look gigantic when they fly. My Florida associate, Miss Charlee says there are all kinds of herons, egrets, and spoonbills in South Florida, and they're indeed like modern dinosaurs. We've only seen toucans and monkeys at the zoo, but those are some good facts to know!
