For many years I was an avid seeker of shells and sea rocks.
Here are a few of my bottles of shells.
I especially like the tiny shells. I have been on a proper shell hunt in years.

Have you ever wondered about the 5 slits in a Sand dollar?
The five oblong holes, known as lunules and reflected in the skeletons, let water pass through them to reduce the lifting pressure of the current. The holes also let sand pass through and help them disappear into the bottom faster. When they die and wash ashore, their skeletons become works of art
Any beachcomber who finds Sand Dollars along their stroll considers it a lucky omen! They aren't likely to be found on many beaches, but there are several spots around the United States where you'll find them.
I adore sand dollars. Thirty + years ago, I was fortunate to find four whole sand dollars at Atlantic Beach.

we love shells too... sadly we have no sand dollars our coast is full with oyster shells...

I love that bench and I do have a sand dollar - only one. We love all of Marv's birthday photo booth pictures!

ReplyDeleteI like to find shells too. A lot of the cliffs on the North Cornwall coast contain quartz and you can often find pieces of white or pink quartz along the coastline

ReplyDeleteMy mother had shells all over her house, she was born here in Florida and left at age 18 as daddys wife and went to Savannah. she loved beaches and shells. she even had a lamp full of them. She loved sea horses too and my brothers wife and I put our funds together and bought her a bird bath that was made from 3 seahorses. she loved sand dollars also
ReplyDeleteLove shell collections, mine went toward wedding decor once upon a time. The only ones I do NOT like are those embedded in toilet seats ... UGH!

ReplyDeleteThat bench makes me happy, too. It would really be cute on our front porch! We have found Sand Dollars on the beaches near us but what we have a whole lot of is shark teeth. SSNS loves hunting for shark teeth. We have glass jars all over the house with shark teeth in them. Love your collection in those beautiful glass jars.
