We are in the season of Fifty shades of gray except for the leaves that won't leave
their trees. Quite pretty
My roving Photo Journalist Janice sent me this photo with an email.
She said she didn't think she had ever seen Cardinals eating flower blooms.
I don't think I have either.

ReplyDeleteNorthern Cardinals do supplement their mainly 'vege' diet with the occasional top up of protein from insects... which I would say is the more likely attraction at this planter. Although they have been known to nibble on fruit tree blossom in the spring, it is extremely unlikely they would be taking pansy flowers. Though if that is actually what they were doing, it would be worth reporting to one of the larger bird recording sites. Changes of behaviour are always interesting to those measuring environmental impacts... Gracious, you brought out my inner twitcher! YAM xx
Such lovely holiday ornaments, it's always a joy to bring out those that have memories of special times or created by special hands. I think I'm in agreement with Yamini about the cardinals, in that so many species are adapting and changing all of their behaviors as climate and environmental impacts increase and force them to do so. We know Madi was always your favorite decoration. Our weather has been 50 shades of grey here too. Today we are getting a wind storm and possibly some snow.

ReplyDeleteRed oak and beech don't drop their leaves. One of yours may be beech but hard for me to tell. Other individuals won't drop, either, for other reasons. I hope you have a lovely Christmas!

ReplyDeleteThe leaves here in the swamps stay green or turn mostly brown here, it looks like yours do about the same. It is beautiful in its own way.
A friend of mine loves her cardinals, she says it means angels are near.
We are happy when the snow arrives so all that brown, dead fall stuff disappears. Pretty Cardinal.
