Wednesday, January 10th was a beautiful day but the wind, they call Mariah, was gusting at about 40 mph. In fact, so gusty we could see it blowing the clouds at mach wind speed.
We decided it was a good day to walk around the inside of the NC Museum of Art and have lunch. FYI when the employees were putting up the umbrellas we wondered WHY with the Wind. Within 5 min all the umbrellas were on the ground.
The cafe at the museum has changed hands...it used to be (BEFORE COVID) quite nice and there was table service. Now everything all sandwiches and salads are in a cooler (serve yourself). Soup, and 2 hot sandwiches are made to order.
Both of use enjoyed what we ordered but JUMPIN' CATFISH the cost was as high as the clouds. Bottle water $3.00 each our lunch total with tip was $34.00

OH MY.. i once paid 2.00 for a bottle of water at Jungle Gardens, but that was 10 years ago, so it might be 3 now. yowsa! like you said Live ad Learn. 2020 has changed our entire lifestyle everywhere. at least you will have beautiful post for a while. can't wait to see what you saw
ReplyDeleteI bet a museum was a fun place to be inside on such a windy day. It's 60 MPH up here this morning, and I cannot open the bathroom window at 6:00 a.m. for Precious. Our routine is to open it for 15 or 20 minutes after breakfast every day no matter how bad the weather. Not this morning!

ReplyDeleteIt looks like a peaceful lovely place to have lunch. If B found the hamburger worth eating that would work for me. Fries approved by you both. Nothing shocks me about the price of eating out these days. The view would make it for me :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like walking around inside was a good idea given that wind. I think almost everything is most costly now then it was pre-Covid. We don't do fast good often, but the other day we stopped at Wendy's and it was over $30.00 for lunch...I was really taken back by that.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it just grind your gears to pay all that money for a lunch in what should be a nice plzce and have to choose some sort of industrially packaged repast that doesn't even come out with a plate and some 'eye appeal'? There is eating out, and there is refuelling....

ReplyDeleteHA! When I first saw those umbrellas I wondered how they kept them up, now I know they didn't. It's sad they took the service out of the dining experience.
ReplyDeleteFriend Laurie and I went out to lunch this past Thursday and the bill was $50! In my opinion - that's just way too expensive for lunch. Love the colorful umbrellas!

ReplyDelete40 mph? That is a gentle breeze! We have been getting gales for the past two months with gust of 80-90mph. A couple of days gusts of 110mph were recorded. Definitely no umbrellas going up then!

A walk around a museum on a day with weather like that is a good choice. You get out of the house without being in the weather.
ReplyDeleteAs for the cost, it's becoming par for the course.
The wind's been bad here too, but not THAT bad. It's sad when new owners take over a business and change so much that was good about it. It's just happened here with Rock City, and there won't be any more special events like the month-long Rocktober Fest that Jeff used to work and I used to blog about every single year.
