Flag Day 2025 and Stitches with YAM

Flag Day is a holiday celebrated on June 14 in the United States. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.[1] The Flag Resolution stated "That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."[2][3]

Thanks to YAM for fueling my urge to crochet  Today I have 2 news squares

Granny Square (l) and a new (to me and fun) Bushy Stitch (r). I thoroughly enjoyed both of
these and will make more.

I also completed a 7" square of the treble stitches.  I didn't enjoy the treble it was TROUBLE.

No problem doing it.  Just the stitch is too loose.  The square is flimsy and may or may not be shown here or used down the road.

*********************************

To refresh your memory here are the first squares

Left to right 3, 7" squares

single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet
each 7" square is finished off with single crochets around the border
3 single crochets in each corner of the square.

Miss C, these are fun and sitchaliscious!

I skipped stitches today and put in a sounds video - but for next week I might do a little tutorial on how you can link the treble (double treble for UK readers) stitches to help stabilise the fabric... YAM xx

  3. beautiful stitches and a lot of fun I am sure. I do know that triple can be bad, when here are 3 children playing, it is worse than if there are 2. learned that working in day care. you and yam are rocking this tutorial thing on stitching. I am still learning new pioneer women skills, and I can tell you that even though I know they could have done this, I will not even try. ha ha.

  4. You're crocheting looks just perfect. And what beautiful colors. I have no stores near me anywhere that sell beautiful yarn of any kind. I have to drive 50 miles north south east or west to get to Hobby Lobby which is all that Ohio has now. Thank you for the Patriotic reminder.

I like your granny squares. I really should pull out my crochet hooks and start doing this.

  12. Our front lawn is decorated with 14 American flags for Flag Day. It is the first time Mom has done it. But she has been so impressed by the main street through our development where about 10 homes do the same. She is a proud American who hopes some of the neighbors will do it too. Maybe for July 4th:)

Love the new stitches. Mom has never seen or tried the bushy stitch.

  18. WE had a WET Flag Day here.......rained very hard and did the same in D.C. for the military parade unfortunately. Your crocheting is coming along beautifully! I think I mentioned my quilting sister is now crocheting too! I was never good at it myself unfortunately.
