Last week I was delighted to see a Downy Woodpecker on the suet cage
I watched for a minute or so. He never moved, kept his head up like he was swallowing.
After another 5 minutes of observation, he remained in this position.
It was time for a closer look. I knew when I opened the back door he would fly away...
nope, surely as I walk closer to him he will fly away NOPE.. I stood by the suet for a few seconds, no movement. So I gently tapped the suet cage. He awoke form a deep sleep/stupor off he flew.
I've never been able to approach without all the birds scattering. No clue what Mr. Downy was doing. Maybe he just flew in from a very long distance and his wings were tired.
Here are the Friendly Fill-Ins for tomorrow. Ellen came up with the first two and my wonderful co-host, Lorianne of Four-Legged Furballs came up with second two.
1. Preparing delicious and enticing meals is my love language.
2. Never a dull moment with the mouth of the South around. One of my cousins from north of the Mason-Dixon line gave me that name.
Oh my word. That's crazy about the Downy Woodpecker on the suet cage. He must have been really worn out.
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing over the comfy shoes and the box making your butt look big.
Huh? He must have wanted to pose for you. Good to see Madi today. I like your fill-in's. Happy weekend. We have a busy one. Tell Bryan to have a happy Father's Day.

ReplyDeleteGreat capture of the birdy... and love the Madi flashback... and as always, your fill ins are creative and fun! YAM xx
Angel Madie your butt does not look big in that box. Goodness what was your mommy thinking. Looks like you had a bunch of toys in there with him. Occasionally I go outside to refill the bird feeders in any one of the birds might be sitting on a feeder and not want to fly off while I'm there. They don't like being interrupted I think, lol. I enjoy your fill ins this morning. Happy Friday
ReplyDeleteMaybe that bird had some berries that had fermented before coming to binge on some suet, kind of a munchies thing and passed out???
ReplyDeleteWe have seen woodpeckers freeze like that when there is a hawk near.
ReplyDeleteI see Madi had a window to look out on your painted toes and your comfy shoes!
Your #1 for Fill-Ins, I do really believe it's true! Your recipe at Teddy's blog, Quick Chicken Saute... delicious! I hope your cousin meant that in only the nicest way.
How strange about the woodpecker! Your butt does not look large, Madi♥ Love your fill-ins!
ReplyDeleteThe perfect conversation starter in Florida is Are you originally from Florida? works every time. I do like the tell me a little something about your self. so here goes, I bet I can out south your mouth, brahahahahaha. that is really odd about the woodpecker, never heard of this before... maybe he is a caregiver for and I'll spouse... ha ha
ReplyDeleteWhat a strange encounter with that woodpecker. We love the Madi flash back and your fill-ins.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely have the gift of making anyone feel "at home", C.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cool moment you got to spend with Mr. Woodpecker, We get tired birds at the fountain who just like to "hangout" sometimes.
Have a wonderful weekend!
hugs,
Beth

ReplyDeleteYou didn't have anything "harder" than suet in that feeder, did you, LOL? I like your painted toenails in those bright blue sandals, and Madi, you DO NOT have a big butt!
ReplyDelete#1. So your real love language is acts of service, right?
#4. That was so smart of you!
That is an excellent bird watching finding
ReplyDeleteGIRLS!! GIRLS!! Now that is not a becoming behavior...either one of you! And by the way, I LURVED that picture if the Downey and the wonderful chance you got because he was so deeply asleep. That would;d always be a fine fine memory to me, if I was ever that lucky.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the woodpecker was preparing to defend "his" suet against all comers.
ReplyDeleteYour conversation with Madi is so funny! Thank you for linking up with Feline Friday.
