Wordless Wednesday Winged edition

We thank our Hostess Sandee at

 Comedy Plus

Recently we had another wonderful winged sighting on our

cul de sac

a Great Blue Heron was strolling around

Wait just a few seconds on the video the Heron will appear coming from behind bushes

We have two good size lakes,  Shelley Lake and Lake Lynn, within 2 or 3 miles of our neighborhood.
Not really sure why Mr. G.B. Heron decided made a rest stop but glad he did.

  1. That’s really cool! Here are some fun facts about blue herons:
To keep cool they flutter their throat muscles to increase evaporation.
It can take up to two weeks to build a nest.
Life expectancy of a great blue heron is 15-23 years
Despite their size they can fly as fast as 30 MPH.
An adult heron consumes up to one pound of fish per day,

  4. Wow!!! 😮 I have NEVER seen a heron just out for a stroll, I've only seen them at the edges of water, hunting for their next meal. That would have made my day!

  7. How cool is that. It sure would be exciting seeing one of those stroll through my yard. When he comes into view in the video he looks huge.

  8. What a beautiful sighting. I wouldn't doubt that he's one from way up here North heading for warmer climates for the winter. Sometimes they get food early in the mornings by rooftops thinking that those are actually ponds.

  15. I saw his little noggin in the first few seconds of the video. I just love GBHs... well, except when—you know :) It is so much fun to see them just wandering around your neighborhood. We have a GBH, Horatio, and a Great Egret, Checkers that visit daily at the small pond in the front of the house. If I don't see them my day just isn't right... HA! Fun video, Cecilia!

  17. That is a very cool visitor!!! We use to have a couple of herons living at our lake but I think they must have found a better place.

  20. I love how they 'strut'!
I see them often where I live. There are lots of small lakes and ponds and creeks. Too bad they are usually elusive creatures and very shy of people. So you were very blessed to have one strolling around your home!
