We thank our Hostess Sandee at
Monday, Feb 9 we took an unexpected fun day trip.
Today I'm happy to share something we recently learned
The rest of the story:
February 4th the original battery in our 2020 Honda CR-V died
We call the CR-V, Madi 2 because she is the same shade of gray as Angel Madi
BAD NEWS:
Madi 2 was in the garage
Anytime bad icy weather is predicted, we put one of our cars in the garage. So we don't have to clean off 2 cars.

GOOD NEWS:
We are long time members of AAA roadside service. I called 1-800 (HELP QUICKLY)
Charles from AAA roadside service was here in 2 hours. He was friendly, efficient and funny. Charles must have been 6'8" tall or taller. Our garage is a single car garage. He squeezed himself between Madi 2 and the back wall of the garage. Madi 2 was pulled in all the way. I was worried about the confined space at the front of the car.
He had a handy dandy machine that could test Madi 2's battery. Within about 40 minutes Madi 2 was purring like a kitten. WooHoo
BAD NEWS:
Madi 2's annual inspection is in February each year. Due to two winter storms in a row we had to postpone her service to Friday February 6. We dropped her off at 8:30 am.
Went to the mall to walk...about 9 am we rec'd a call from the service tech saying he could not inspect Madi 2. He asked if our battery was new? YES
Well Madi 2 has lots of bells and whistles on her that have to be recalibrated. Inspection cannot occur until Madi 2 has been driven at least 100 miles and she has to be driven many of those miles on the highway.
'GOODEST' NEWS
MONDAY FEBRUARY 9, 2026 WE TOOK A DAY TRIP TO ROSE HILL, NC TO HAVE LUNCH A DUPLIN WINERY BISTRO AND TO VISIT THE WINERY. TOTAL MILES APPROXIMATELY 150 MILES.
Our favorite NC wine is from Duplin Vineyards.
By the time we finished our lunch the dining room was full.
Bryan had bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries
I had Reuben with sweet potato fries. The little cup is cinnamon butter to dip fries in.
It was delicious!!!!
the Tuscany wine country. Some of their vineyards snapped from a moving car

ReplyDeleteWell, that was celebratory! (and a reminder to me that I have to start preparing The Grey for it's first official "annual"...) YAM xx
Hooray for AAA. Glad they were able to get the car started. A shame they couldn't complete the inspection but at least it gave you an excuse for a road trip
ReplyDeleteI think this was a win for you and Madi 2! Definitely a great excuse for an enjoyable road trip!
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful way to be forced into having you car inspected. Love the pictures and that you had a beautiful blue sky like I was hoping you'd show. Cars can be aggravating but when they're running like a top they are great.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great way to need a road trip. I am glad Madi 2 enjoyed it as well and passed her inspection.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun place to visit and have lunch. Not enough miles will never be our problem. Our dealer always says you already have X number of miles and need an inspection. We drive too much! Glad your car is ready to hit the road.
ReplyDeleteIt can be an inconvenience now to rely on UBER ... but also a relief to be car-free, AAA free, inspection free, insurance free, maintenance free ... shall I go on? No! It's freedom for sure.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful winery, I love all the dark wood decor and the food sounds so very yummy!! What a great way to put miles on Madi-2!!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Beth
Our favorite wine is from Duplin Winery too... wonder how that happened. That was a great day trip... the food! Too bad you had to rack up those 100 miles😄 Congrats to Madi 2 on passing her inspection!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear everything went well for Madi 2 and you got a fun day trip as well.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a delightful true story ~ Glad you got inspections done and had a fun trip besides plus yummy foods! ~ hugs,
ReplyDeleteHugs to you Cecilia and Angel Madi ~ xo
Java Bean: "Ayyy, fries dipped in cinnamon butter? Interesting ... Almost like a tiny potato churro!"
ReplyDeleteLulu: "Out here in California they don't even inspect cars at all! They just test them every couple of years for smog and that's it. The doors and bumpers could be falling off but if it passes smog it's good to go. Even after all these years, it still boggles our Dada's mind."
What a sweet spot to have lunch, which looks delicious, and we're happy to hear that Madi 2 passed inspection!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Madi 2 is all squared away and you got a great adventure and lunch out to make sure the miles were done. I love this. Wish hubby and I had been with you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Love and hugs to you and Kit and scritches to all the kitties. ♥
glad you got service, last time I called them I waited HOURS, when they finally got here, told me the wait was so long because I wasn’t home….I was sitting in the garage with the door up and open, then they could only jump start the car because
ReplyDeletethey didn’t have any battery that would fit my vehicle….how many ways can you say bull $#it😼‼️
Duplin Winery is a gorgeous spot for a day trip! Lunch looks delicious! Our area in northeast Georgia is called "Nappalachia," for its unique high-elevation terroir and award-winning European-style and hybrid wines. When I visited Napa Valley it felt like “home”. 😉
ReplyDeleteThat was a fun trip and it looks like a nice winery. Hooray for Madi 2 passing the inspection!
ReplyDeleteThat was a good excuse for a day trip. :) XO

ReplyDeleteYou forgot to give us a picture of Madi 2! It's nice to know I'm not the only one who names her car and calls it "she." That was a clever and well thought-out way to get the needed miles on Madi 2. you sandwich looks delicious, and I'd love to explore that winery. Oh, and we don't have annual inspections any more in TN.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on Madi 2 passing her annual inspection and I agree, a clever way of achieving those miles needed. I'll keep that winery in mind for the next time we go down that way. Not sure when that will be but probably in the warmer part of the year. Since we have lived here Virginia has added several wineries within driving distance and yet we haven't been to one yet. We need to correct that situation :)
