What were they thinking

I have a question
*

*

and did you like or dislike them?

Anyone who knows me, knows I am a HUGE Ice Cream fan.  There is only
one thing that would make be NOT EAT ice cream....wooden spoons
All through elementary school ice cream was always available in the cafeteria....just like
the above photo.  The only spoon available was the horrid piece of tree bark.
The ice cream was so hard it often broke the fake spoon.  Then you had to wait for it to melt so you could drink it.The thought of sticking it in my mouth made me

GAG

Same thing when the doc would say Ahhh then stick the tongue depressor down your throat!!!

Don't even get me started on the cotton swabs the dentist used.

In my youth, I had my share of oral surgery.  As if that wasn't enough torture, the dentist often
tortured me further by putting cotton swabs in my mouth.  Supposedly to keep the area dry.  I told them the cotton was a mistake in my mouth.   As soon as that swab went in my mouth, the oral juices ran rampant.  Eventually they learned to find another way.

I too remember them - fondly! I lament that now one either gets PLASTIC... or none and then one is stuck with how to eat it... though I did get inventive and made a shovel out of the paper lid once... messy but effective! YAM xx

  5. I remember the wooden spoons but never had a problem with them breaking. I hated those swabs tough and they always made me gag.

  6. Arghhh! It should be though, not tough. Maybe I should turn on spell check!

  7. Oh yes - those cute little tubs of ice cream with their own spoons. I do remember them but fondly - I thought the spoons were so adorable. Never thought about GERMS! I didn't have an issue with cotton swabs though. I've had way more than my share of those through the years.........

    Hugs, Pam

  8. I remember the wooden spoon. Did anyone get a splinter from them? I didn't like them either and I'm not fond of the gagging tongue depressor!

  10. I remember the tiny ice cream cups and the wooden spoons... I was good with the wooden spoons. Not so happy with the cotton swabs and just had a dental procedure two weeks ago that involved them. I guess they were cotton... he shoved them up there so fast I never even saw them! We have found two new flavors of ice cream at the Publix... Premium Cappuccino Fudge Blitz and Heavenly Hash.

  11. I loved that ice cream and the spoon also, but not the oral thingys. I could get one of these small ones with a nickle and a larger one with a quarter. bob and I were talking about these last week. he said at lunch time he and his friend would put their funds together and buy a pint, the man in the store would cut the pint in half and they both got a large one cheaper. I agree, when they put those things in my mouth it makes it water like crazy. anything foreign in my mouth does that. now every thing is plastic and may taste better but is bad for the environment.

  12. Our mom says she remembers those wooden spoons. She didn't have much problem with them but does remember that a real spoon sure was easier to use.

  13. They still use those truncated wooden spoons, at the ballpark when ordering lemon ice! We had fluoride treatments in elementary school, and I remember those cotton things...ugh!

  14. I remember those ice creams. I ate them often and that wooden spoon didn't bother me a bit. I don't care for tongue depressors either and I have to hold them. I'll gag if the doctor is holding it. Go figure.

Have a fabulous day. Big hug. ♥

  16. Ghostwriter says she barely remembers those wooden spoons. She is wondering if we'll go back to them with everybody being so anti-plastic lately.

  18. Mom says they called them Dixie cups - and she thought the ice cream was terrible. As for those gauze thingies, they used to make Mom gag and get very sick at the dentist's office.

We are slipping and sliding a lot today - surprise icing all day.

  19. Had forgotten about those wooden spoons! They never stopped eating ice cream, though. I had to give up the clarinet after awhile, because of the reed on my teeth.....chills up the spine.

  20. I remember these !!! sometimes we would use the spoons if they were "smooth" for
fear of getting a splinter on the tongue !!! and think of how Marlon Brando felt when filming the Godfather; word is, his cheek was stuffed with cotton; though don't know if this is fact or fiction ~ ☺☺♥♥

  26. Oooh I remember wooden spoons... Yuck. I hated how they tasted. But I certainly didn't have the patience to wait for the ice cream to melt!!!!!

  27. I remember those and remember that I could taste wood when I would take a bite of the ice cream. The cups were very small too and I am a big ice cream lover and those cups didn't hold enough.

  30. I remember the wooden spoons. I don't know if today they would be considered environmentally friendly because they aren't plastic or destroying the environment because of the trees. I guess if they were bamboo...
