Hemlock Bluff Nature Preserve Part II

If you missed Part I click here.

What would Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve be without a Hemlock

close up of the branches and the itty bitty Hemlock pine cone

This was the first sign we saw as we approached the trails.
Thankfully we did not encounter any critters except the Squirrels.

Along the way we stopped at the overlooks too..

Along the way we learned Fire fuels regeneration
Routinely the forest service has controlled burns....

The morning was gorgeous...
it was too early for most of trees to have leaves but boy are they tall.

We had the trail to ourselves except for a 3 small children and their mom.
They took the trail to the right...we took one to the left...
To quote Robert Frost in his poem, The Road not Taken

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

We had a most melodious serenade by all kinds of birds on this trail

We heard the rat a tat tat of woodpeckers

 Only the shadow knows
 whose home this might be

As I mentioned no leaves on the trees but so many interesting shapes and trunks.
I'll share those on Hemlock Bluff Part III

  2. What a gorgeous walk. But thank goodness there was no copperhead to meet and greet you!
Bertie and I often hear the rat-tat-tat of a woodpecker on our morning walk to the park.
    Cheers, Gail.

  8. this place is so beautiful. I love those trees. as far as I know I have never seen hemlock trees. I did look up to see if they are poison, and they are not. all the murder mysteries use hemlock to poison people. but that is a flowering bush. glad to hear that since these are huge trees. what a place to walk. love it

  9. I adore being out in the woods! As a matter of fact, The Hubby calls our backyard the woods, or the Miller Street Nature Preserve.

  11. What a fun place to enjoy. I wouldn't want to run into a copperhead though. That would scare me to pieces.

Have a fabulous day, honey. Big hug. ♥

  23. It's a very pretty place, and much better right now to be outside, with no people.

  24. I knew someone who did a controlled burn on a large stand of trees on his property every year. That was the first I ever heard of that, and learned it was to help prevent wild fires.

  25. This place sounds awesome, dad says. He's surprised he'd never even heard of it and wishes they'd gone to check it out when we still lived out there. It looks beautiful and right up their alley.
