What would Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve be without a Hemlock
close up of the branches and the itty bitty Hemlock pine cone
This was the first sign we saw as we approached the trails.
Thankfully we did not encounter any critters except the Squirrels.
Along the way we stopped at the overlooks too..
Along the way we learned Fire fuels regeneration
Routinely the forest service has controlled burns....
The morning was gorgeous...
it was too early for most of trees to have leaves but boy are they tall.
We had the trail to ourselves except for a 3 small children and their mom.
They took the trail to the right...we took one to the left...
To quote Robert Frost in his poem, The Road not Taken

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
oh we would like to see and to hear a woodpecker... but the snake sign would cause a running mom LOL
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous walk. But thank goodness there was no copperhead to meet and greet you!
ReplyDeleteBertie and I often hear the rat-tat-tat of a woodpecker on our morning walk to the park.
Cheers, Gail.

That really is a beautiful place for a walk.......lots of beautiful trails and trees. Lucky that you guys can get there and enjoy it during ANY season - bet it's gorgeous in summer too!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Pam
What a beautiful spot to visit. We love the sound of the hungry woodpecker!
ReplyDeleteIt looks and sounds like a lovely experience. The peace of it sure calls to me right now. I love the little pine cone. I am sure I have not seen a Hemlock.
ReplyDeleteIf I saw that no shoulders, I would have left :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting looking pine cones.
this place is so beautiful. I love those trees. as far as I know I have never seen hemlock trees. I did look up to see if they are poison, and they are not. all the murder mysteries use hemlock to poison people. but that is a flowering bush. glad to hear that since these are huge trees. what a place to walk. love it
ReplyDeleteI adore being out in the woods! As a matter of fact, The Hubby calls our backyard the woods, or the Miller Street Nature Preserve.
ReplyDeleteThe woods is always a great place to visit whatever the season. We can just smell the hemlocks!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun place to enjoy. I wouldn't want to run into a copperhead though. That would scare me to pieces.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day, honey. Big hug. ♥
Thanks for taking us along on such a peaceful walk in the woods. We're glad you didn't run into any of those snakes too.
ReplyDeleteWe really like that place, what a wonderful way to get away from it all!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I could have walked that park without the thought of the
ReplyDeletecopperhead popping into my head non stop.....and I guess someone HAS;
otherwise it wouldn't have been posted; who would WANT to pick up a
copperhead .......cod ~~~~~~~~~~
☺☺☺
What a lovely hike, I almost feel like I was walking beside you all!!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing what joggers miss out on--glad they stressed take it slowly. So much to see when you actually look!
ReplyDeleteHow delicious this eye candy is! I love getting out &about with you (glad just sqirrels!) Now, gotta go see part I
ReplyDeleteThat was a lovely walk . The Pileated woodpecker looks very much like one of the species we get here.
ReplyDeleteIf Mom had seen that snake photo, she would not have chosen either, just the way back to her car:)
ReplyDeleteWoos, Lightning and Timber
What a peaceful place. They say spending time with trees can boost your immunity and mood.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a nice place to visit. XO
ReplyDeleteThe sound of birds singing lifts my heart no matter what! What a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very pretty place, and much better right now to be outside, with no people.
ReplyDeleteThank you for showing us such an awesome spot.
ReplyDeleteI knew someone who did a controlled burn on a large stand of trees on his property every year. That was the first I ever heard of that, and learned it was to help prevent wild fires.
ReplyDeleteThis place sounds awesome, dad says. He's surprised he'd never even heard of it and wishes they'd gone to check it out when we still lived out there. It looks beautiful and right up their alley.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place to relax. These places are just what we need right now.
