Caturday Food Art: Good and Bad

THE GOOD
Dad says mom's Potato salad is a work of art.... this is her special potato salad bowl.

It is huge.  She always makes enough to almost fill the bowl.

Yellow arrows indicate the line where the potato salad was before two
piggies ate 1/2 of it.

No matter where I am when mom starts to peel the boiled eggs I come running and meowing
and doing the boiled egg dance.....

I always get a taste of boiled eggs before she starts mixing all the other stuff in it.
I like the yolk and the egg white....
Cluck cluck

Mom doesn't have a recipe.......she has a taster...Dad
She starts out with 4 boiled eggs and about 10 new potatoes
quartered and boiled.  Both are refrigerated and very cold before she mixes.
If you mix when the taters are hot it turns into mash potato salad.
Then she mixes all of these to taste: mayo, sweet pickle relish, onions, mustard
salt and pepper then she goes stir(ring) crazy.
Once mixed she calls in the Taster Dad.

THE BAD
Recently mom entered a recipe contest over at Teddy, One Spoiled Cat's blog.
Miss Dingleberry the cafeteria cook at Ding Dong School gave us 3 photos and asked us to pick one and then 'create' a recipe.  Here is the photo mom selected and her recipe.

Dear Ms. Dingleberry below please find my disgustingly delicious recipe and photo.  Just a wee bit of why we chose this photo:  MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM 150% dislikes tomato aspic, it used to be served lots when she was a child.  This kinda reminds her of it but a different color.  So in her mind's eye here we go!!

Mock Congealed eye of Newt aspic
2 jars of halved olives (the eyes)
1 jar of lime juice to make sure it is very bitter
2 envelopes lime jello for color
1 cup warm water about 5 ice cubes

Directions combine the lime juice, jello and warm water
stir til dissolved.  Add ice cubes to start the chill.
Place mixture in the freezer for ~20 minutes or until it starts to congeal.
Remove from freeze now stir in the halve olives.  Pour mixture into a jello mold, refrigerate for 3 or 4 hours.
You can tell it is ready when you giggle it and the olives move about like eyeballs.  Turn out onto a bed of lettuce
serve as a disgustingly delicious side dish or a main dish with mozzarella cheese ball tarts on the plate.
hints:  the lime juice and sweet jello give it the sweet and sour taste.

Bon Appetite

We did not win the disgustingly delicious recipe contest but we rec'd a disgustingly adorable button.

Thanks Teddy and Mom for this fun event and for the disgustingly adorable award....

Final Friday Fiction: Christmas Past

Today we are once again thrilled to be pawticipating in YAM-Aunty's

Today is May 25 in seven months it will be Christmas so today, it is not
fiction; however, YAM is all about history and memories so today I have a......

Flashback to Christmas 1954... (photos developed 1/55)
First of all pardon the head dresses (more on that later*) my Mom and I were wearing.
That year I was torn between being a tomboy and a prissy missy.
I asked for cowboy or Indian suit,( shown in the chair you see the Indian suit and drum there was also an Indian headdress but I couldn't find the picture) a Betsy Wetsy doll not pictured. Betsy came with a bottle, you put water in it then feed her..then she wet her pants.

There is quite a bit of history in this picture engraved in my mind forever.
We lived with my Annie Ma, aka my mom's Mother until 1956.  In the center of the room is the oil fired heater  a kettle of water was always sitting on the top.  I think it was an early 'humidifer'.   The water in the kettle would not boil but it would steam. My mom is in the doorway watching.  See the large wall of glass behind her.  It was a huge built in closet in Annie Ma's room.  I will take the opportunity to tell you I was a bit of a handful as a child.  Once my cousins and I were running through the room (I'm sure Annie Ma was hollering DO NOT RUN). I fell toward the glassed closet broke a pane in it.  I almost cut my left ring finger off.  They had to take me the ER.  I'm told once we arrived I started screaming and kicking and slinging blood all over the ER.  They finally had to put me in a straight jacket so they could put stitches in my finger.  I still have the scar starts at the first joint and winds around up to the side of my nail.

I also asked for a new watch and charm bracelet pictured below

*Also pictured below is the fancy hair do you got when you
slept with your hair rolled in bobby pins and your head wrapped in the head thing.

Thoroughly Poetic Pictorial Thursday

Today we join Two  SPOILED CAT
Angel Sammy and Teddy for their poetic pictorial poem.

There is today's photo prompt

Cloud formations fascinate me
I stare and I stare until the things I see
come forth to keep me company.
My mind's eye sees faces and sometimes places.
Each is embraced as a gift divine.
*******************************
What I see in this formation is the head and neck of a lady of the 18th century.
Her hair is in a bun (left side of photo). The sunbeams appear as blink on her long graceful neck.
