WELCOME TO THE FIRST ANNUAL PARK DAY IN
OMDs/OMCs I was invited to take a virtual park/beach excursion with Jake and Baby,my K9 buddies from Four Paws, Etc. Their Mom, Mad Snapper, took our pictures. Jake, Baby and their Mom are my official Mayoral Photographers.
They live in Florida so I put on my sun bonnet.
Packed up my back sack and off I went...
Baby started off the tour with a trip to
Hillsborough State Park. I wish I had Spanish Moss on my trees.
Baby is a most beautiful and gracious lady.
We enjoyed watching the water gently flowing
an kept our eyes open for any cute guys!!
Jake took me to Fort Desoto Park at the beach...
He is so thoughtful we had a (red blankie my favorite color)
a girly umbrella and a cooler. Jake is quite handsome and OMCs
look at his muscles
Before we let Jake suggested I hope on the post so I could see the ocean and feel the gentle breeze.
Jake and Baby this was a day I will never ever...no
never forget. Thank you so very much for
being my BFFFs.
While I was gone Mom and Dad took a short ride over to the west side of Raleigh to visit
Many years ago
Richard Stanhope Pullen donated 66.33 acres of farm land to Raleigh for use as a park. He called it an old cow pasture red and rocky. In 2010 Pullen Park closed for two years for a complete make over.
In February of 2012 it reopened after a two year
renovation. The next picture is of the climate controlled
building which is the home to the original carousel.
Mom told me that at least four generations of her's and Dad's family have ridden on this
carousel. She told me my human sister used to call it the round, round when she was a wee kitteh.
During the two year renovation the Carousel was painstakingly
revived to it originally glory.
The carousel features 50 hand carved and hand painted animals.
It was accepted into the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Some of the animals move, some are stationary.
There are 30 horses and 20 other animals including
ostriches, rabbits, cats, pigs, a tiger, a goat and a lion. It even has kittehs with fish in their mouths.
Granted mom and dad did not hike in the woods but they
hiked all over Pullen Park to enjoy
Many, many years ago the music for the carousel came from this beautiful
Wurlitzer. Today the music is automated.
