Toss a Frisbee, picnic in the lawn, watch the wildlife, and enjoy the day in the park. This 21-acre site was donated by the Wooten family in 1996 for the use of the citizens of Raleigh as a park and future greenway connection. The first phase of the 2015 Wooten Meadow Master Plan was completed in early 2022.

Set along Hare Snipe Creek*, Wooten Meadow Park has looping paved and grassy pathways, open lawn areas, natural meadows, and wetlands and is a habitat for a variety of plant and animal species. Further back in the park is a successional forest of **loblolly pines and hardwood trees.

Here is the rest of the story.  In 2015 they began this project.  However, what they don't mention is that originally the back field was a free public soccer field. By Free, I mean no reservations required.  The games were by word of mouth, kind of unorganized. 95% of the soccer fields in our city are used only by CASL, Capital Area Soccer League reservation only.  I don't know if the soccer field was temporary

 It was located at the very back of this photo toward the groove of trees in the center.  Beyond those trees is a residential neighborhood.  In the Fall and Winter when many of the homes could see the field.  Many started complaining to the city about seeing soccer players using the area as a restroom.  What was a beautiful view became not so beautiful and had an  unpleasant odor.  

After about a year of this bad behavior, the city plowed up the field.  Gradually landscaping and meandering trails were added. It is a beautiful flat trail. I have been nursing a Medial Collateral Ligament strain in my right knee for several months. Walking on flat surfaces is good therapy. However, walking up or down hills is not on my to do list for a while. 

  Depending on the time of day you can have full shade or nearly full sun.  It is about 3 blocks from our home.  There are still no 'facilities' but there are benches along the trails and shaded picnic tables.  This tranquil park was completed in May 2022

Thursday October 20, we went back to take the complete trail.  We were happy to see the City landscapers out watering the plants.  

We discovered there was a natural trail that loops around we found *Hare Snipe Creek top left and the  **loblolly pines and hard woods bottom left and right

The entire trail including the loop thru the natural area took 17 minutes but it is such a pleasant trail I'd probably walk several loops.

I asked Pup if he knew what types of critters called the Zoo home and if the howling bothered him?

He replied:

There are all kinds of critters, from rescued farm animals to exotics… there are serval cats, which make lots of noises when they play/argue.  The wolves, cats, birds & donkeys are the noisiest. I’m glad we live at the other end of dirt road.  (FYI: Red house isn’t part of zoo). We can hear the wolves howling at sunset if we’re outside.  The serval cats screeching freak me out!  I'm very thankful my feline bros Kat and Rocky don't screech like that.😹
