Poetic Thursday hosted by our pals Teddy and Angel Sammy
Here is today's photo. It inspired me to tell you a true story.
A few weeks ago my sister-in-law and all her family met in *Duck, NC for their annual beach trip. There were a total of 7 children under 11.
This story is about her oldest grandson Oliver, when he first saw the ocean.
Oh what luck
it is time for our trip to DUCK (NC).
We live in Maryland
The pawrents said
the trip will be long.
we'll sing some songs
We rode and we rode and we rode some more
Are they playing a trick
will this road every take us to Duck.
Finally we arrived at the rental cottage.
I was so excited to SEE the SEA.
Mom opened our doors, unbuckled our seats.
Go stretch your legs, but don't
get in the Sea with your clothes on!!
When you are SIX,
rules often get MIXED.
In a nanosecond they were
quickly NIXED.
In the water I stood
fully dressed.
Imagine my glee when the waves
drenched me from head to toe.
In my DEFENSE,
rules are hard to follow
when they make no SENSE
I heard Mom say, I'll have to hang you out
TO DRY.
*Duck, NC is located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina

ReplyDeletethe poem is a perfect fit to the photo. love the story and the photo . fond memories for all of you. I tend to forget their are people who have never seen the ocean or gulf or beaches with waves since I was born on the coast and it was normal. we were that way when we left Savannah and saw our first hills and mountains. we stood in awe at waterfalls coming out of the mountains and had a cup of it to drink. the drops off on the sides of the roads were scary and amazing. much like seeing the ocean for the first time. when a lady from KY came to visit us in Savannah, she was in her latge 80's she said she did not like the south because she felt like she was on land that someone put a giant blue bowl down on top of her,
ReplyDeleteAw, I love the poem, such a perfect way of expressing a 6-year old's delight at being at a seashore for the first time. And who needs rules anyway? Clothes--and kids--are cleaned easily enough! :-)
ReplyDeleteYour poem is so perfect and we too lived in MD and my mom said the same thing - most of all to my brother, Mark☺
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute picture and a fun, real story to go with it. We bet Oliver would have thought twice about going in the water if he saw that picture. BOL!
