Dear Auntie HiC,
This episode of Fun Facts with Rocky is regarding something near & dear to Mom’s heart.
Mom has been called a “Childless Cat Lady” in an insulting manner. She just says, “Thank you!” 😹
I was curious about where the term “Cat Lady” started, so I did a little research. It’s quite interesting.

Auntie HiC loved Miss Mabel's commented "surrounded by softness"!!!
Also Auntie knows there is a huge difference in being alone and being lonely!!
As you know Auntie is an only child...she was never lonely. In fact she developed a huge imagination and she loved reading too.
Lovingly Auntie HiC

ReplyDeleteRocky, that's a fabulous insight! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. Hugs and whiskeries YAM-aunty xxx
that is interesting... so it is something with a real history and a story behind history... wow
ReplyDeleteThat is very interesting, Rocky. Mabel Collins was a pioneer, and now it is perfectly normal to have your pets as your family, and there is nothing odd about being a cat lady.
ReplyDeleteAh, surrounded by softness, a lovely way to spend one's days ...
ReplyDeletePeople would be happy to be cat people if only they'd give it a try. It doesn't matter whether you're single or a huge family. Rocky we're glad you posted this and we have to say that we are cat people here. Precious love seeing you this morning.
ReplyDeleteRocky, that was very interesting! It would (and still does) take incredible strength of character to disregard societal and familial pressures and live life on your own terms. I will add, though, that she, and women like her, must have had their own means of support, otherwise the freedom to choose a different path would not have been possible.
ReplyDeleteAlone and lonely are two very different things. Mom was kind of a cat lady years ago when she had four cats, now she is a definite dog lady and is not lonely at all.
ReplyDeleteI could very easily be a cat lady. First step would be to get a cat. I like Miss Mabel's line that she's surrounded by softness
ReplyDeleteI love it. Nice to hear that story. I am always surrounded by my loving kitties when I'm outside and I too am childless. They provide a lot of comfort and love.
ReplyDeleteCount me in as a Childless Cat Lady, currently without a cat but I love cats and loved 8 of them to the very end. Not counting cats that SSNS and I rescued and found them homes. Surrounded by the softness of cats sounds wonderful to me. How very interesting about Miss Mabel Collins. Thank you for your research about Cat Ladies, Rocky.
ReplyDeleteWe never knew where the term came from either...and Mama is definitely a "pet lady"!

My mom is a dog lady and thinks having lots of dogs surrounds you in softness too.
ReplyDeleteI love "surrounded by softness" as well!
ReplyDeleteI've been alone many times, but I've never been lonely either. Such a wonderful post. You made me smile.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

This was wonderful, Rocky! Thank you for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that very interesting explanation about what a cat lady is. We think our Mom fits the definition of a dog lady if there is such a thing.
