Celebrating small victories on Saturday

Thursday, March 26th, we went to Wegmans. We heard many folks saying they were well stocked.  THEY had every thing most things were limits per shopper.  An entire aisle of TP, 6 rolls per pack, ground beef, lots of other meats, Fruit, everything we needed. Ground beef was 2 per customer both packs were 1.08 and 1.09 lb.  I divided them I have 2- ~1-lb and 1-3/4 lb.  We will go back next week TOO plus Wegmans sends out monthly coupons including a $5.00 coupon on purchases over $25.
I am queen of 'making do, one of my Mama's favorite phrases, I suspect from living during the depression.  However, making do w/o tp I have not yet master .
Very thankful to have it.  I am in need of nothing else, except for the virus to exit as quickly as it entered.

Dad of Angel Madi was buying fruit
when he saw me I was hugging this 6 pack and had a big grin on my face, his face lite up like he had just been given a new Train.  We felt like we had won the lottery...

The rest of the tp saga:

As of last Thursday, March 19th it was 2 weeks since I had been able to buy any toilet paper. I placed an online order at Harris Teeter for toilet paper to be picked up yesterday, I even had to select a specific time for pick up and prepaid!!!

March 25, our designated pick up day,  we were about to walk out the door at 1:30.  Got a call from HT online Ordering, my order had been canceled they had no tp.. I politely asked, when she expected it she said we had some yesterday.  I took a breath, then asked you didn't put some aside for me?  No she said it is first come first serve.
THEN I had a subdued Hissy Fit.  I said, I ordered and prepaid for this a week ago. I was first before any of your walk-ins yesterday.  Of course she is just the messenger.  I was royally 'hissed' off.
I went to HT bought the last package of Bounty table napkins...as a last resort.  Even I have my limits.  LOL  and evidently tp is one of them.

Wegman's devotion to customer service has won us over.  We will be going back...
even though it is farther from home than Harris Teeter.

***********************************
As of 5pm last night, Wake County (where we live) has a stay at home
order.  We can go to grocery stores, pharmacies, and out side to exercise...keeping social distancing.  No gatherings at all except with those living in our household.  This is in effect until April 17, 2020.  Currently only a hand full of counties in NC have this order but I suspect it will be state wide soon.

  1. Hooray for small victories! Gail is queen of 'making do' in the kitchen. The memory of wartime rationing was still strong in her family when she was a child, and she inherited from her mother a horror of letting a single morsel of food go to waste!

yes our generation were still 'hungover' from more restricted days and learned these skills. I do wonder about anyone born from the 1970s onward though. Camping skills also help! YAM xx

  3. You certainly know by now how I feel about TP!!!!!!! And I want the virus to exit more than you know. Publix has our loyalty! Jerry and I have been doing your stay at home order for two weeks and will continue. I have no idea what Florida will do. I love B's reaction to you hugging tight to your TP!

  4. Congratulations on getting your TP! It is wrong that Harris Teeter (that name always makes me laugh) didn't honour your prepaid order.
We are under the same restrictions as you. As both of us have health issues we also have a 12 week safety sheltering isolation.

  5. I read a lot of blogs and it seems this TP shortage (and everything else shortage!) is everywhere right now. Same here in our town - we have three grocery stores close by and our Wegman's is a 15-20 minute ride away. They are a HUGE store so they do have more of everything (normally) but this shopping/hoarding thing is hitting them as well. Hopefully as we get further along, people will get the idea that they can live without 20 packages of toilet paper so EVERYONE can get what they need. Sigh.

    Hugs, Pam

  7. I'm so glad you found some! Right now limits at stores are absolutely essential. I'm doing good on tp right now. I found a six pack at Wmart yesterday before work and was quite proud, like I had won a major prize.

  8. Yay for TP! It seems it's the hottest item and continues to stay that way.

  9. I am with you on the make do but never even thought I would ever have to make do TP.. of course in KY in the 50's, all the outhouses had sears catalogs and news papers.. nothing to clog up, he he he.... I laughed out loud when I read hugging your TP... other than Politics I think TP is the biggest conversation maker there is. we don't have any of your stores here, Costo, Sams, WM and Publix with a couple f Winn Dixie

  11. Something similar happened to me, only with pet food! I preordered, and they said that they'd set it aside for me. I drove 30 minutes across town, and nope, nothing there! I purchased some big bags of kitty litter, and will not be back there, because I'll just go local instead. But, things are tough, so when events turn around again, I'll still frequent that pet store.

  12. Harris Teter sure doesn't understand first come, first served. Obviously your order was there first. Just shows why we are in this mess, idiots everywhere making things worse. Down here, even with limits of 2 each on things, carts are filled with 2 each of every meat product, which must be why we never get any, even at senior shopping times.

  13. Glad you scored the TP. Mom loves Wegmans but, sadly, there are none here. Publix is very good though. We wish we had curbside pickup.

  14. You have a wegmans store? That's our favorite grocery store, and it had it's start up here in Rochester NY. When I went there last week, they had enough of everything. There were limits on some items, but mostly I was able to get everything on my list. I'm sure this crisis will blow over soon.

  15. We are also on the Wegmans bandwagon like Chester because, as you know, we've had them here all our lives. It is always worth the trip to shop there. We're glad to see you found some TP.

  16. My boy in Charlotte sent the edit they got in Mecklenburg Co. He's teaching school on line as best as they can all cobble together.

  17. I have yet to venture out, I am on day 18. 19 days ago was the last time I was in Publix. Depending on the situation either next week or the following week I will go to the store again and hope that the major hurdle has been overcome. I hope to find things that I need. But, I am glad you were able to get what you needed and I agree with limits, it makes it better for everyone.

  20. We are in week 3 of stay at home. The store shelves are still pretty bare. The "girls" have been trying to keep Mom and Dad supplied with some stuff, but it is really hard to get bread and milk. Today's "online" order came with about half of it missing. No potatoes - Mom is hoping to make do with what she has for steak and potatoes dinner tomorrow.

  22. Yep, Cecilia, and now as of 5 p.m. Monday things will be clamping down even further in N.C. Dad's now on an alternating schedule at work, but with this new change taking effect he's afraid he'll be out entirely. Long before this stuff started he'd been looking for work elsewhere, and this just might be the tipping point, though almost everything's kind of on hold for the time being, including job interviews. Thank goodness for virtual everything! Stay well.

  23. We haven't been put in lock down yet, but most people are voluntarily doing it anyway. There is a 10 person max for gatherings. Lots of weddings being postponed or just downsize, including our rector's next month. Fortunately, the pups don't have a clue that anything has changed.

  25. An interesting discussion is worth comment. I think that you should write more on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but generally people are not enough to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers
