Now I know what love is.....
Love is a four-legged word
Below is picture of an amazing sighting we had at Seaboard Cafe on Saturday. Have you ever seen an African Basenji in the furs?
I have only seen them in dog shows. They are rather exotic he/she was walking with the humans outside the Cafe. Photo from Gigi Google but this is the exact one we saw. They come in tri-colored white, black and copper, brindle and black and white.
They have the cutest curly tail. Just gorgeous.
Wikipedia says:
The Basenji produces an unusual yodel-like sound (commonly called a "baroo"), due to its unusually shaped larynx. This trait also gives the Basenji the nickname "barkless dog".

Like you, never saw one in the furs--just photos or dog shows on television. Interesting that you saw one.
ReplyDeletePretty dog. Did you get to hear it yodel? A baroo, that is interesting.
ReplyDeletewe will look for such a yodel pup... maybe he can join our barking band?
ReplyDeleteWe are only familiar with the Basenji from our dog breed books. Handsome guy!

ReplyDeleteI have known two Basenji's in the furs. In Sydney, folk like 'different' dogs and these definitely count! They are very close to the ancient Pariah and wild breeds, so are notoriously independent-thinking dogs, making training a challenge only experienced dog-handlers should undertake. YAM xx
We have seen a Basenji that was visiting at a neighbors house. We wanted to hear him yodel but he didn't. They are beautiful dogs!
ReplyDeleteI used to work for a vet many years ago and a client had Basenjis. He emigrated from South Africa and brought them with him. I think they were both brindles, but I can't be sure after all this time (about 50 years!)
ReplyDeleteI have only seem them at the big dog show on TV. They are interesting and handsome dogs!
ReplyDeleteWe have seen some Basenjis. But it was a long time ago. You all have a really good day.
ReplyDeleteWe've never seen a Basenji.

Love is a four legged word, that I do believe.. and that dogs is so cute. I have never seen one, not even on TV... did not know they exist... but then this is NOT a mutt and Mutts are my thing...
ReplyDeleteI have not seen one, but it does look cute. XO
ReplyDeleteThose stones are perfect for a garden. We don't think our pawrents have ever seen a Basenji in the furs before but they have heard of them from dog shows.
ReplyDeleteThe Basenji looks pretty cool, we'd like to see one!
ReplyDeleteI dont think we've ever seen one of those doggies. That one looks like he should be a movie star.
ReplyDeleteWay cool pups and I've not seen one in person either.
ReplyDeleteLove is a four legged word indeed.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

I THOUGHT the neighbor down the street had one....then he barked...and barked.....and barked......and barked some more !! :) ☺☺☺☺
ReplyDeleteI watch dog shows on TV, and have learned about many breeds that I wouldn't have known otherwise. The Basenji is a handsome dog; just the right size!
ReplyDeleteCool graphics:) Yes, Mom has seen a Basenji - very striking and stunning dogs.
ReplyDeleteWoos, Lightning and Timber
Oh I agree that love is a four-legged word..........! Never seen a Basenji in person but they are very elegant looking dogs.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Pam
Those would look great in my garden.
ReplyDeleteLove is definitely a four letter word! We have never gotten to meet a Basenji either...I'd love to hear one yodel!
ReplyDeleteI had a friend with a basenji and they are such cool dogs. It’d take some getting used to their noise though.
