Many streets in Raleigh are named after one of the 100 counties in N.C.
Say Perquimans 3 times fast. I have a mental block with
Pistachio which I rarely have to say. I'm thankful I don't live on Perquimans Dr.
Transylvania and Rutherford Cos. are in the NC Mountains.
Middle photo is full of all kinds of symmetry and shadows.

I am okay with Pistachio, but my block comes with saying anemones. I always seem to get an extra syllable in there and my n and m mixed up.
ReplyDeleteMy mom has issues with words that have too many consonants. I think one of my favorite street names from nearby is Wiggleworm Road. You ever wonder how the naming process went? Like, was there a committee that sat around and tried to come up with the most ridiculous, difficult to pronounce names sometimes? Just thinking out loud...

ReplyDeleteAt least there is some imagination sparked by such names. Nearly every street in the Hutch's town is named for the royal family over the years...Albert, Victoria, Mary, William, Elizabeth, John, George... or for the obvious... Hill Street... duh... there is one, very short, Gaelic name; Tom-A-Mhoid, which roughly means 'place of justice' - it's the knoll where the community would have gathered to make decisions on the fate of offenders... YAM xx

ReplyDeleteI love your pot of flowers in the sun and i would not want to live on Transyvania or Pistachio street. in fact I think all streets should be numbered, so much easier to find addresses.. Saint Petersburg is that way, only a few named streets, Savannah is almost all named streets

ReplyDeleteWe love seeing your pot of flowers. Street names sure can be interesting and there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason for how they are named. We live on a road that is named after one of the founding families of our town.

ReplyDeleteBut too many people mess us Duval which is Jacksonville's county. It's doooovall with a real seasoned southern accent.
We have many French words attached to our roads here in Metro Detroit, and folks from other parts can rarely get the spelling correct!

ReplyDeleteWe LOVE your selfie shadow! So cool! And your street names are really interesting. Street names can be so strange. We live on Fourth Street, not 4th Street. If somebody accidentally uses the number instead of the word, the Government offices can't find us ever since computerization came it!

ReplyDeleteWe wonder if those big street names cost the City more to make than ones that just say, maybe, Park Ave? Whoever named the streets in our neighborhood, must have been dreaming about the Old West: Prairie Trail, Overland, Falcon, Cascade, Adobe, Cougar Circle, etc.
