Final (non) Fiction Friday.
Just before Bryan's shower on Friday morning, July 9, master bath ceiling light bulb died. No problem he still had lights over the vanity. No biggy we thought. The ceilings downstairs are 9'. He had to get the 6' ladder. He got the globe off to find a surprise. There was a very oddly shaped lightbulb. When he took it out we saw that it had a funky base. Not a standard screw in. See below collage. Obviously all the 87 light bulbs we had did not fit it. So off to Lowe's we go for a funky bulb. They didn't have any like that. It even made the guy at Lowe's scratch his head. All 3 of us walked up and down the light bulb aisles looking for one. Finally he saw a display of what looked like plug in nightlights. But lo and behold they were adapters for a standard bulb to screw into then the prong in fits into the fixture. This 5 min chore took over an hour. LOL

ReplyDeleteWell that was a packed post today! Crikey - I was holding my breath at the mention of ladders and bulbs and was relieved that there was nothing to worry about - other bulb fittings (GU24s are LED fittings, designed that way to prevent replacement with less efficient standard bulbs...) Your quilt is very bonny and Oh My Word... that hibiscus is simply gorgeous!!! YAM xx
Well done on the lovely and original cat head quilt, and for successful completion of the five minute chore. (There' wasn't a hard deadline, was there?)
ReplyDeleteCheers, Gail.
Who knew changing a light bulb could be so involved! Love your cat quilt and the hibiscus is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteso glad the ladder episode ended well. when i hold bob's leg, i put my hand in the middle of his back, which means if he falls, we will both go down and no one will hear us say help we have fallen and we can't get up. I enjoyed your tale of odd light bulbs and glad it only took an HOUR not days. like having to order something. it should be a law that all bulbs have the same bottoms,ha ha. lovely flowers today. and the quilt is beautiful and looks fantastic on Madi's bed. the perfect quilt for that spot. it comes with its own cat
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like he would have had a cushion named Cecilia to land on :)
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt. Great choice of fabrics and colors. Madi would have loved to lay on it.
The color of the flower is beautiful.
That was a real life "How many people does it take to change a light bulb"! The quilt is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAwww, the cat quilt is so sweet! Perfect place for it♥ You have a lovely guest bedroom. We had similar issues when we had the painters change every dang bulb in the ceilings of this house when we moved in. We have high ceilings. I hope the ceiling lights last longer than we do. We will be needing to get someBODY to come in and change any lights that die. SSNS is skeered of heights and I just think we are too old to be climbing on ladders that tall. The 'hibiscuit' is beautiful... that is my favorite color of hibiscuits here in Florida!
ReplyDeleteInteresting light bulb ..... and I love your quilt! So cute!
ReplyDeleteThat bulb hunt was sure a pain...but your quilt sure is pretty!!!
ReplyDeleteWe're glad you found a fix for your funny light bulb. That cat quilt is so cute and looks perfect in the spare bedroom.
ReplyDeleteGlad you found a solution to the bulb. We really should standardized these. Love the quilt!
ReplyDeleteOh those five minute jobs that take so very long to do. You and I are the same where ladders and hubbies are concerned. I always hold on to hubby too. We're such good wives.
ReplyDeleteLove the spot that Angel Madi would nap. We have several spots here where Angel Little Bit loved to nap.
Thank you for joining the Feline Friday Blog Hop.

ReplyDeleteThe quilt is beautiful! Wish I had the patience to do work like that.
ReplyDeleteGlad you finally found the right gadget for the light bulb. (I don't like Dad to go up on a ladder either.)
What a beautiful quilt!!! I really like the colors, and of course, the kitties!
ReplyDeleteA lovely flower...hibiscus are so beautiful and remind me of the tropics!
Thank goodness you found the light bulb adapter...they seem to be making new and improved lights and fixtures all the time, don't they??
Have a wonderful weekend!!
I saw those funny bulb bottoms in some fixtures when I did our renovation. Must be standard somewhere but surely not in the US. Glad there is an adapter. Love that material and cant wait to see it finished
ReplyDeleteMom says everything turns into a major project anymore. We love the quilt.

ReplyDeleteWe have had a similar light bulb experience. It took us weeks to get a bulb and then we couldn't get it in. We ended up buying a new fixture.
